Can you plug an ipod directly into a speaker, then, is that what you mean?

yes, if your speakers have their own amplifier then just hook them into the headphone jack.

That normally connect to my computer via the standard headphone jack, is it simply a matter of connecting them to the dock above and voila? I dont want to spend money on these expensive all in one systems as I already have these.
