If its too far gone you can use a Mavic 611 bottom bracket which doesn't use the threads.

Don't think they are available new anymore but I found one BNIB on ebay, you might be lucky.Regards

If you use the Mavic ones, you have to have the BB shell chamfered with a special tool to get the cups to sit correctly on the shell. Velo orange currently makes a BB to work with stripped threads, but I can't attest to the quality. I recently purchased a french one from them and wasn't too happy.

I've used the YST threadless ones before, I think Edinburgh Cycle still sell these. I have seen them sold under a couple of trade names but they are the same. Fairly cheap £15 quidish. You need two shimano type bottom bracket tools to nip them up and it uses a sort of crumple washer on one side rather than the chamfering tool. I have heard others bitch about these but I have been using one on a damaged frame for over a year. Two winters and a tour with no creaks.
This was fitted to a 531 o/s Raliegh MTB frame.
Hi
I put a new bottom bracket (shimano un54) in my 60s steel frame but looks that I cross thread it. what should i do? shall i give to a bike shop to re-chase the threads?
