I still think the 3rd game is the best.
I believe the best way to tell a story in GTA surroundings is to have the main character be a man with no name. This way the ebb and flow of the sandbox environment does not clash with the character. It felt stupid to have, for example, Niko Bellic tell us how tired he is of the killings and violence and then steer his car into a crowd, dismount and stab some innocents. This freedom of action is in direct conflict with the character development and story, I think.
GTA games have always had well written NPCs. I especially love Brucie from GTA IV. The problem is that with all the freedom you have, you are able to act against the will (in a sense) of the character. I do not like it. Great NPCs, but the main character has never been able to keep up with them, storywise.
Vice City is by far the funniest of the games. San Andreas was a bore. And I hated the you have to eat and work out every fucking five minutes routine. Same thing with your friends in GTA IV. Too much to do.
Playing GTA IV felt like chore: to progress the main storyline you need to do every goddamn job. Way better solution would've been independent storylines you would be able to pursue, but ones you could leave alone, if you just wanted to advance the main plot.
And why oh why aren't we able to view the cutscenes in a separate player? They've spent huge amounts of money creating them. To have a movie theater which'd play them after a you've finished the game would be fantastic. Now I have to rely on obscure saves if I want to watch a specific scene. Why this player hasn't been implemented in any of the games really baffles me.

has anyone played the liberty city episodes? (GTA IV). pc or console?....i play pc. just completed the lost and damned and now playing the ballad of gay tony..real good so far and the new vehicles and weapons are nuts!

Didn't bother with gay tony as I was really disappointed with lost and damned, felt all samey samey gameplay wise, and I wanted all of the characters in it to die.....

In Defence of TBOGT I actually enjoyed it so much more than the Lost and Damned, I think anyone would actually. For a start it brings back the TANK!!
Also it seems to go back to what GTA was all originally about, fun. You can jump of buildings and generally be an idiot. Did I also mention there are TANKS!!

So saw a trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Excitement levels rising.
Then found out it's being made by Treyarch. Excitement levels bottoming out, depression rising, puke rapidly piling up around crotch area.

Too soon... although maybe it will take some of the cheats from MW2 they really ruined that game.

I suppose QoS did have its moments though (apart from spiderman 2 and chronicles of riddick and arkham asylum) are there any other movie based games that other not utter excrement?

Just not feeling the Treyarch games.
On a more ideological level, Treyarch are a company set up by Activision to make CoD games without the hassle of dealing with it's actual creators. Robert Kotick's attitude to his developers and consumers was recently revealed when he cut loose Jason West and Vince Zampella, the franchises creators. This is still a developing story, but MW3 will be half the game without them at the helm.

Genuine question: what sort of cheating do you refer to? I know boosting goes on to level up and get nuke challenges, but I've never actually had my game affected by cheaters. I think there's been two hacks since it came out, but they were patched within the day.
-
• #799
+1. People that boost are quite easy to spot and kill, and the hacks were sorted quick on PS3 too, If they use the same engine as MW2 then it can't be all that bad, just depends on the story they come up with, although looking at the trailer it seems they've gone on some weird Assassins Creed flashback tip..
