Freecycle: Schwinn Hydramatic BMX f&f

  • Bought this for £300 about 10-12 years ago. Never really got on with it all that well. Too heavy and low for me (being a tall weakling). Ended up using most of the parts on other bikes and selling some. Never managed to sell the frame.

Comes in classic late 90s bright yellow. 14mm rear dropouts (CHUNKY), 10mm front end with peg mounts. H/Set is not quite complete but really all you need is the top cap (with hollow bolt to allow front cable through steerer) and a stem (maybe a spacer or two). Detangler/Gyro is only partially there and missing a bit. Lovely seat post clamp too! BB cups (for one piece crank) but no BB.

Need some space so its got to go.

A bit dirty in places but should clean up. Scratched in numerous places (it is a BMX after all) but only real damage is the chipping in the detail shot. Also when I got it I had trouble with the 990 style U-brakes and had no experience with them. Some bright spark told me to file the face of the brake posts a bit to remove paint and other crap that may be hindering the brakes. It did nothing of course. Brakes should work fine on it regardless though if you set them up correctly (its actually really quite easy) or you could just ride it brakeless or whatever the latest trend in BMX is.

Collection only from SW11 (off Plough Road - http://tiny.cc/tinymappo). Really near Clapham Junction so handy if you want to get the train/overland.

PM me if you want it and to arrange collection. Collection is available most evenings and some weekend times but best on weekdays.

Feel free to make a donation to the forum as 'payment' but I'll leave that up to you.

check out the awesome pink tulip growing in my garden in the background! Bought that as a bulb in Amsterdam.

  • Gone. Pending collection.

I'll keep the thread open till its physically left my flat.

  • No worries mate. I will collect for sure on Sunday night, Cheers

  • Ha ha, I have exactly the same tale as you.

The schwinn was actually too premium for me, I have a top-end ruption from 1998 which I was stuck with. I forked out much more than I shouldve on a first 'proper' bmx and it sucked because it was so heavy. I bought fancy cranks, bars & wheels for it but it just got heavier.

Ruined the potential of BMX for me. If I had just bought a cheapie light bike!

  • Exactly. Prior to this I'd had an 80s Raleigh (still got it) then a Dyno Compe. Neither were strong but they were strong enough for what I needed and more importantly light.

If I was getting back into it now I'd get a race BMX and not do anything too stupid/big.

  • gutted to have missed this

  • mate...if you want just keep it, no worries...I will give his number and you can contact him.
My wife is still not well so I wont be able to get it tonight again. Thanks

  • so what happens now?

bikeranger if you want it I don't mind hanging onto it for you. Let me know if not and I'll arrange for CB-as to collect it.

  • just pm u

  • bikeranger are you still coming to get the frame?

  • OK well this never happened. I still have the frame taking up space in my flat.

Whoever PMs me first and can collect (ideally this week) gets it.

PM'd CB-as to see if he still wants it but really I just want it gone.
