  • vertebra. Bad. Heal the fnck up ladies.

  • poor girls.. and right as the seasons gets going

In terms of competitive level cycling, that's a whole season wasted with injuries that serious, isn't it.

    Wish them well.

I broke my little finger in the last week of November and it still hurts and my wrist hasn't got the whole movement yet, so I can't even imagine how frustrating it has to be for the real cyclists who put their bodies at far greater strain than a ride down the Old Street.

  • What a rubbish story. What even happened?! Yes there was a collision with a car, yes there were injuries.... and...? Are we not gonna hear how it happened or if the driver was prosecuted or not?

  • Belgians drive like cunts, driving through that country is a terrifying experience... Heal up fast, ladies...

  • Ow!

    +1

  • Wigan Will was ahead of the game when he posted this in "in the news" yesterday. I didn't even get the internal press release until this morning!

I really hope the girls get over this quickly, horrible thing to happen.

  • ouch!
    hope they heal up fast.

  • UPDATE ON BRITISH RIDERS INJURED IN BELGIUM
Hannah Mayho, who was seriously injured in a car collision yesterday while training in Belgium with four other British riders, is said to be making satisfactory progress following surgery at a hospital in Oudenaarde yesterday.
A second x-ray yesterday afternoon confirmed the 19 year-old from Bradford broke one and not two legs in the crash, as previously reported. Her left leg has been pinned in a successful procedure and she is expected to be on her feet later today.
Hannah’s broken right arm and wrist are in a plaster cast. She is likely to stay at the hospital for another week. Her parents and coach Simon Cope, who are with her, have reported she is feeling positive.
20 year-old Lucy Martin from Cheshire, who suffered a cracked vertebra, is resting at the Academy House under the supervision of the GB Cycling Team doctor. 20 year-old Katie Colclough from Lincolnshire, who suffered concussion, is expected to be discharged from hospital today.
20 year-old Emma Trott from Hertfordshire, who suffered a broken collarbone and a black eye, has been released from hospital, as has 18 year-old Sarah Reynolds who hurt her hand and cut her chin in the crash.
The five girls were injured at about 10:30 yesterday morning when a car pulled out of a junction.
Simon Cope, the Olympic Academy Programme Coach, said: “We are all feeling much more positive today. All the people here have been really great and have rallied around to help us.”

  • Best wishes to them.

  • I wish them all a complete and swift recovery.

Like Oliver, when I heard about this yesterday I was hoping that it was not going to be a repeat of the Amy Gillett tragedy. Thankfully it sounds like none of the injuries are life threatening.

  • Thankfully it sounds like none of the injuries are life threatening.

    Thanks God for that.
Lets hope it will not affect their hopes for the Olympics.

  • ^^ I think you may have missed out a 'not' in that post, Andy.

  • I had, thanks Oliver.

  • Some people just like gore.

  • By the way, Oliver, can I get in touch with you in matters regarding road safety to prevent such accidents?
I'm wondering if the LCC can lobby for some improvement of certain junction or should I write to my local MP (whoever she/he is right now)?
I'm cooking the dinner right now, but will write a PM later.

  • The local group will probably know the junction you're talking about, Kris, and in any case it can all be done. Happy to advise.
