Wanted: Chris King 2Nut/GripNut 1" Headset

Posted on
  • I want a Chris King headset, in black. Black headset w/ black writing.
OK so I want a black 2Nut, either black with white/silver writing or completely black... Sweet...

I also have a question, can you use the 2Nut, which is designed for use with spacers and/or cable hangers without spacers or anything? (On a track bike) In the same way you'd use a GripNut? I imagine you can but I'm asking just in case their design requires some sort of space between the nuts.

I ask this because on the CK website it states that you can't use the GripNut with spacers due to its design (fair play) and I'm not sure if I'd need to throw in a couple millimetres of spacers or not, when using a CK headset on my 'dale. Currently I've got a 90's? Campagnolo Athena, which has quite chunky top bits so I imagine a CK would come up a bit lower. (Stack height?)

    Fucken 1" threaded forks...

Thanks a lot for any help.

P.S. Condition not important. The cosmetically tattier the better.

  • I remember this being discussed a couple of years ago, but I can't remember whether my initial question got answered or not.

  • Got a 1" gripnut version in the ubiquitous silver that I'm not using because the thread on the forks is too short.

  • Sotto Veloce (black with black writing) is the new style for CK headsets, unlikely you'll find one in tatty condition. It'll most likely be brand new.

Black with silver etching can be found more easily secnd hand.

Aspirevelotech do them at a good price.

  • Paul, PMing you in a sec.

Dov, that's the one. Yeah good point they've only been around a couple years I think.
I'm not saying I only want tatty, either is fine I'd just prefer not to have a brand new Chris King on a daily bike. Cheers man.

  • Isn't the gripnut specifically designed for forks that are too short?

  • Isn't the gripnut specifically designed for forks that are too short?

But these are ridiculous. I had to re-fit the headset it came with.

  • Isn't the gripnut specifically designed for forks that are too short?

No, they are just ideal because the locknuts grip together hence not being able to use spacers with the headset.

  • I think.

  • not sure about that...

a grip-nut is meant for very short steerers, i had one for two years, no problems, and it's still running good
you need a 2nut. they are totally different.

  • Max - are you buying bodie's headset, otherwise I'm game...

  • I'll let you know if I'm not.

  • Cheers Max.

  • gripnut cant be used with spacers as the locknut threads into the top cap of the headset - very very tricky to adjust......
2nd nut - works a normal threaded headset can be used with spacers but dont have to - thats the one you want....

  • Cheers Martin. I got your PM about the cranks by the way, thanks for the advice...

  • Bump.

  • Can the 2nd nut be later converted to threadless headset?

I'm also looking for one of these in silver...

  • Yes it can.

  • have a silver 2nut ...was fitted never used... anyone??

  • How much?

  • 80
    fitted;-)

  • PM'd...

  • Max - are you on this?

    PMd for 2nd dibs...

  • Thanks, broken_7777777777.
