They're designed for speed and more of an aesthetic idea rather than practical for London. Stiffer is a minority concern unless you're racing to the finish. People debate stiff cranksets and bb's, but it's for pro's rather than the casual rider. As Sr suggested. Do it but don't complain if the love wanes.
