It replaces the cassette and the QR with a bolt through axle and the threads for a cog and lockring. I used it on an LX hub to make a fixed hub with 135mm spacing for a mtb, and then spaced it down to 120mm when i got a road frame. Have some iro hubs now so its not needed.
