Chain Question

Just got a Campag Strada 3/32 crankset. I wondered if there are track specific chains, or will any old kmc type road chain do?

a nice 3/32 chain for road use is Sram pc58 (called pc850 now I think)

you have to be kidding me! Far be it from me to question Sheldon's advice, but take every pin out, and clean each pin, plate and roller by hand using a 7 step disassembly process, 3 different cleaning chemicals and two separate types of grease (one for the plates, one for the rollers)?

Sheldon's deluxe kit including all the chemicals costs $250. How much would your chain have to be worth to do this?

Edit: oh i understand, my bad! 3/32 is fine, but if you get a 1/8th chain (can't go wrong with an HKK Vertex, available from brixton cycles amongst other retailers), it'll give you more choice of sprockets. Not that it matters a great deal, you can easily get 3/32 sprockets.

Out of interest, how often do you guys clean and replace your chains? My beater does about 12miles a day, five days a week, riding hard. From new, the chain seems to start slipping after a couple of months. Cleaning it seems to make little difference so I end up replacing it. It's fine again for a couple of months, then the 'cycle' repeats. I understand keeping the chain new minimises the frequency you need to change the cassette* etc (and spend the big bucks), so I don't resent the odd tenner on a new chain, but am fairly sure I'm doing something wrong here...
