Why not try a heart instead. They look a wee bit easier. My milk pitcher doesn't have any noticeable spout so my efforts are pish.

They're practising. Why not? It's not like some of the crazy Christians that record themselves ranting about random shit. Or that freak ranting about..
It's kinda like me going out and filming myself attempting backwards circles on my poo brown Langster when I can't even trackstand and then putting it up on youtube.
I've been trying to get these right recently (the rosettas) and I'm worse than that person posting all their efforts.. sucks.
Are you getting decent microfoam with your machine? No matter how good you are at pouring you can't do it unless your milk is pretty much perfect.

Gaggia classic is on its way! Didn't order the dualit grinder in the end; the general consensus on the interwebz is that it just doesn't grind fine enough for espresso and kitchen counter real-estate at my gaff is already a compromise.
Looking into manual grinders now. Going to the algerian coffee shop this week to get some nice coffee, a proper tamper and possibly a grinder.

I'd consider german ebay for a grinder, got my 2nd hand zassenhaus there, was £17 posted and works fantastic

I really didn't think I would ever get excited over a coffee grinder.

Bolivian High roast makes an stunning espresso!! I've tried a lot of beans from The Algerian and these were, for me, are the winners.

Not excited at all, just amused by the name.
Will definitely get some Bolivian high roast.

Lol, "Brilliant Nr. 531"
Awesome.
wow, beauty. but might be hard to use between your knees? Found that mine works just as well held down on a table top though

Yeh, can't see how you'd adjust the fineness though.

if it works like mine there's a small lever right under the grinder, you get to it by pulling out the little drawer where the grind comes out

Well then you have no exuse, you're just shit ;)
-

Not shit, just that I make at the most two coffees a day with my machine.. often espresso.. it's not exactly good practice is it?
Anyway don't you work in Starbucks or something? So your coffee tastes like warm milk anyway :P

I'd rather kill myself than work in there =P
On a related topic I was seriously disappointed with the guys in my work there, I came back from my break, huge line of people waiting and one of the girls who has been a "barista" for a long time before I started there. Just sticking the steam wand into the milk turning it on and leaving it to take care of other customers. The milk was absolutely shit but she had no problems making coffee with it. Even worse, she kept all the left over milk in a pitcher to re-use on other coffees, so it was sitting there for several minutes before being chucked into a coffee with a load more sub-standard milk.
Surely if you were a manager you would prefer your customers waited a little longer for a decent coffee rather than quickly be given whatever crap they could churn out as quickly as possible.
On the plus side I switch between two of our cafes, one very busy all day, the other not at all. Where it's just me by myself with a customer every few minutes. Which means I get all the practice I want, and get paid for it =P

it's a long shot but does anyone know of a café willing to take me on for a (very) temporary job in june? maybe i could cover someone's holiday or something?
-
• #2094
I've seen plenty of cafe's do exactly the same thing, mcc.. resting the milk jug on the machine and letting it boil over whilst selling muffins or something to someone else.. and still charging £2+ for it.
-
• #2095
It's fucking ridiculous, if I were one of the customers i'd definitely be having a word with the manager. I mean you don't see chefs chucking out burnt food to the customers when they're busy and expecting them to take it and pay full price for it.
It's things like that that make me really want to start up my own coffee place =P

Most people wont have a clue about it though? If you're happy with a pint of beige hot milk with a shit espresso somewhere in there, the fact that the milk is over / under / sideways heated / foamed is the least of your worries
-
• #2097
That's kinda like saying it's alright how many car mechanics will rip off people who they think don't really know much about cars. If the customers happy paying for it, the fact that you're ripping them off is the least of your worries. Right?

That's a cute video - notice how it's all black and white apart from the coffee? Nice work.

Is that actually going to get used? I wonder how it compares to a paper cup. I was pondering today, while supping on a nice americano, what attributes the paper cup gives the coffee.
