Drapers tools

  • Spotted these tools - says specifically not to use for anything else apart from intended use. Not sure whether its because they generally weaker than most tools thus can't guarantee safety or because...pfft.

They look decent and cost a fair bit less than Park/Pedros tools.

  • NB: Only for use on fixings of thermo-viscous fans on Ford and BMW vehicles.
    NOT for general usage.

  • For that price though, it's worth a shot, no?

Hence the purpose of this post... was taught not to believe everything you read.

    (Plus Draper do bike tools)

  • Draper have a pretty huge range of tools of fairly decent quality at good prices.
Another company to check out are Faithfull tools (available from www.toolbank.com). I've always found their tools to be far better quality than the price suggests. They don't do any bicycle specific tools though. I have a wide mouth adjustable spanner, hex keys and digital caliper made by them in my bike toolkit. All pretty solid and reliable.

  • Bloody cheap torque wrenches on there!

Draper tools are great quality IMO.

  • I have draper cable cutters, and they're very good.

From the picture, I can't see why this wouldn't work on headsets, but I don't know what the fixings for a thermo viscous fan look like. You need to see one in the flesh, really.

  • +1for Daper. I've got 1/4 and 3/8 drive socket sets and they are top quality kit, not diy tut.

  • I've got a bunch of Draper spanners. Nothing wrong with them, but not as good quality as something more expensive (i.e. Park).

  • A friend of mine has one of these, it'll be fine for the top part of the headset but too thick for the little preload adjuster below the very top nut.

Draper sell a 4 in 1 headset spanner that I have, and it's fine for general use. Wouldnt be up to much using it a couple of times a day as I've noticed some marks on mine however for repairs and headset replacement on your own bike(s) it's fine.

  • doubt you could use a standart headset spanner to remove a bmw viscous coupling, damn little buggers that they are, I have a nice shiny replacement to be fitted but its one of 'those' jobs

  • oh and thanks to the op, because halfords sell those for 20-30£, i may need one soon

  • the Draper Expert range is rather good quality i'd say, comparing them to Britool and Snap on, I'd say they are cheaper equivalent (well almost).

Just checked and mine are the Expert range. Suppose I should give them away and go look at the amateur range ;)

  • Draper used to be good but they are really the cheaper end of the quality now. Halfords pro for me with a trade card.

    Bike stand £15, cheap.

Didnt see that - wiggle bikestand returned!

  • so has anyone purchased said 'fan spanner' I had seen / thought exactly the same...
