to get all 3 properties of comfort/stiffness/lightweight, then ti is the real answer.
i wouldn't be so dismissive of carbon (in the hands of crumpton/parlee/cyfac or stainless XCR from indy fab/pegoretti etc. to get a frame to ride how you want.
1/2lb on a frame doesn't bother me as weight is better saved elsewhere like cranks/pedals/shoes and wheels.
if i change my saddle and get a nice pair of tune/gigantex carbon clinchers my steel bike will be at the UCI limit. not that it's heavy in it's current build.
