Here's another company, same idea. http://bilenky.com/viewpoint_main_page.htmlThey are not cheap, though!

dubbleTrubble, check out VeloVision magazine:

Perhaps something like this: http://hasebikes.com/150-1-tandem-pino-tour.html
I have one of these. I use it to ferry my 5 year old around - school run etc. Not cheap but cheaper then a car (is how I justified the price).
It is the absolute bollocks. I love it.

You can test ride the Pino in Dulwich Park, London Recumbents. I'd offer mine but it's set up for a little un and it's a faff putting the front top-tube extension back on.
Loving the Longstaff Tricyle. Is it lurking in a massively long garden in Wandsworth? If it is, then that's like well spooky, cos so is the Pino.

I'm 5ft2 and can manage the Pino no problems - it's heavy but very stable. And you should be able to get it VAT-free (I could as my son's dyspraxic therefore can't ride a bike on his own yet)

Can't see the point of installing a freewheel on the cranks, it would just mean that some (all?) of the time only one person would be providing the power.
Stoker's perogative to only pedal when they feel like it.

So an update on my tandem: I've made routes for our three days of riding, booked train tickets to Exeter, booked places to sleep.. Almost ready to go! This weekend's tandem touring should rock. Only about 50 miles a day (150), which should be fine for a) getting used to the tandem, b) getting over the Devon hills, c) not getting too fed up if the weather is like this weekend.
Super excited.
If all goes well, lejog is next! ;)

Hehe. Glad to be of service! Peter's very much aware of accessibility issues.

Not wanting to start a whole new thread, I thought maybe this would be the place to highlight tandem bikes/builders.
The CirceCycles Tandem seems a bit special, especially considering the well thought out design.

Hey late to the thread but we too are tandemistas....
The UK tandem club is a bit socks and sandals and the US clubs better on modern techy stuff- get onto the tandem@Hobbes site/list. We picked up our ally Trek in Exeter and rode it home to London's famous London in a few days- steep learning curve!
Forum tandem ride FTW!

And forum tandem ride, ftw.

I'd be up for this - there's a lovely lilac Orbit tandem in our shed that needs dusting down, and riding in a friendly bunch wuld be an excellent way of gaining confidence (an issue that applies to me just as much as it does to Mrs PaulR). It doesn't have to be fixed, does it?

On the train back to london. Success (even got the tandem onto the train without any complaints for the rail people).
Cut the third day a bit short, but it needed to be done. My legs are ruined. Hills + tandem = sad. Flats were awesome though. 20mph with zero effort. Had a fucking head wind almost the entire time.
Anyway, getting off at paddington and riding to look mum no hands for a celebratory beer.
(Riding across London should be interesting).

Sweet! Time to start collecting bits!
most definately a long haul spec.
we would no doubt need two bikes in the longterm... Hase s duo lowrider bike has it all for touring, would consider a test ride some time down the line... thanks a lot for posting, much appreciated.
