i cycle this road most mornings at 7:30, because its so quiet - wonder how this happened.

Well, the mall can be quite a fast stretch of road - can imagine someone joining from horseguards may get caught out
Or they assumed the car was turning left into horseguards but didnt, or it was indicating but it didnt actually turn left
Or a car pulling a U turn at that little island to turn away from trafalgar

its also twice the width of a normal road, with no roadmarkings.
I don't even look when i filter left into the mall.

Apparently "there is no point in speculating about what might have happened." Apparrently, we are just supposed to wish the injured party well. Because apparrently their relatives might be reading this thread. Because of course, their relatives would have no interest whatsoever in why their loved one might've been injured.
Hope the rider is ok and that the ambulance was just precautionary.

There IS no point speculating on what might have happened. Witness information is entirely different.

Ambulance and police present, driver talking to police, bike on the side, front wheel completely f***
Rider probably in the ambulance by then, hope she/he is ok, fingers crossed
