After fabricating my own tensioner for my converted road frame I've decided to put a batch of these into a mini production run, here is the first lot on offer, made from corrosion resistant high grade a2 stainless steel with lovely mirror polished finish.

A lot of hard work has gone into making these so I'm asking £8 each, you really don't need a pair but if you really wanted a 2nd I would do a discount.

    Pm me if you're interested

  • Excellent work...
Surplus to my requirements for me, but nice 1 all the same.

  • Saw your chain tug. Seems to fit the bill. Do you still produce them?
    Richard.

  • This guy has the mother of all chaintugs. I want one!

  • looks home made

  • I hate to be a voice of dissent but they aren't nearly as durable as a BMX one, I got one of Tristoo's and it died rapidly! I've been running a BMX one filed down since. I feel awful pissing on a cottage industry like this, but it's true - the single long bolt isn't strong enough and doesn't give a secure push against the frame

  • I am going to buy a new wheelset with Goldtec hubs for a Raleigh Team Record frame (semihorizontal dropouts with adjustable screws to help position the wheel and prevent it going rearwards when equipped with derailleur). Do I need chain tugs to adjust tension and help the wheel stay in position never going forward on skids?

Would these DMR Chain Tugs be compatible? They are available 10mm and 14mm. I'm not sure what to pick.

If they would not work best then what would you reccomend from chainreactioncycles?

  • On forward facing drop outs some people tighten up the locknuts and never have any issues, some people prefer to use chain tugs. I am personally in the latter clamp.

Both of the ones you posted on CRC are the wrong type for forward facing dropouts. What you want is something like the Surly Tuggnut - around £18-20.

You can get away with just the one, you are unlikely to need a pair. There's another thread on forward facing dropouts here; http://www.lfgss.com/thread2577.html

    Loads more info there too.

  • I had one of these tensioners and it worked fine as i only used it as a third hand to maintain tension when tightening the tracknuts. then they held the wheel fine.

  • thanks a bunch, i guess i'll tighten up the nuts pressing on the saddle to tension the chain. i guess this is an advantage over the standard rear facing dropouts. the frame has little screws in the dropouts to limit the axle going back as i previously said. i'll just have to adjust those.
