There will be two fans (top left & right). Micromend are good, though miserable. Get an appointent at the genius bar they will tell you for free whether you need a new fan or just a clean. They may be able to get your ipod working as well?
Also have you tried one of those fan control programs (fan control powerbook g4 - Google Search) they may be a good short term solution?
