That's the thing, i've got plenty of other pairs of Vans... i ride in all of them, yes the soles fuck up because they are nice and soft, but i've NEVER had the uppers fall apart on me... that's why i was wondering what other peoples experiences were...
and re. the returning to shop, yes i probably should have been more demanding or at least checked my rights better, but in some ways i actually wanted Vans, as the manufacturer to be aware of this problem and give them a chance to apolgise, take some reponsibility & actually admit there is something up.... anyway returning is not an option Vans have the shoes... and i await there verdict... hopefully at least a replacment & then some... (but not holding my breath...!)
