Cuts through grease like butter. Pretty sure they only sell it in industrial sizes, I just take it from work, so this post probably wasn't very helpful. -

Citrus based degreasers. Kind to the environment and will shift any grease.

Cillit Bang Degreaser, better than Muc Off

Diesel. I've had the same tub of diesel for soaking things in for years (although I do have to top it up every now and then so I suppose it's not the same diesel).
It's not a fire hazard, not unless you leave it on the hob to get nice and hot and then go at it with a blowtorch.

Or you could use acetone/white spirit/cellulose thinner. White spirit is srsly cheap.

And don't smoke near it, one red-hot cherry drops in it and KABOOM!
Trigger?
Yeah a bit. Although (I was discussing this with my tutor the other day) Trig's broom still has the emotional content of his original broom (OB) because he only replaced one part at a time, like it's got a direct lineage back to the OB. If he replaced the whole thing at once then there's a distinct break from the OB.
We do talk a lot of shit sometimes.

Any degreaser recommendations? I've been using Muc Off.
Muc off isn't degreaser.
Its effectively washing up liquid. Thats where you have been going wrong. -

Which cleans better?
Diesel or Petrol?
-
• #18
petrol, but it evaporates.
-
• #19
Lighter fluid is good for small sticky/greasey areas/residues.
Don't smoke around it though

Diesel or Petrol?I used to use petrol all the time but swapped to citrus cleaner because petrol is quite carcinogenic and I put enough toxins in my body without adding petrol to the list. I don't have a car here anyway so my need for fuel is zero.

Just out of idle interest, if you use 4 Star or lead replacement, does that count as cleaning AND lubricating?

Quite happy with the performance of the Muc Off I was just looking at alternatives. Don't fancy having drums of petrol in my intergrated garage.

I bought a 5 litre can of citrus degreaser of fleabay about tenner delivered, super concentrated, works a treat for sheldon's coke bottle chain cleaning trick for instance, or dilute at about 1:50 for general cleaning.

Liquid parffin works really well and is pretty cheap and easy to get hold of.
