Racist (Someone had to say it Ed!).
So Ed are you suggesting that anything made in India is shit?
-
• #1229
can i just point out as RPM did the OP was not asking for advice nor were they considering buying one.
-
• #1230
can i just get that out there? i think, i lost the plot a long time ago.

have to disagree with mechanical vandal
if you buy a bike and it promptly disintegrates and the cost of upgrading all the shit components is over a hundred pounds then you may as well have spent the money properly first off
these are the type of bikes that will render people frustrated with cycling and will put a lot of people off
yes there are some like reen who took the bull by the horns and made a success, but only by replacing every fucking component until he got rid of the frame too
hardly a stunning reccomendation
not everyone googles things before buying, but it demonstrates a certain lack of awareness

Who threatened you?
Yeah so the bikes aren't of the best quality.
But there's a massive number of brands out there punting similar or worse quality bikes for just as much. Apollo, Magna, Raleigh, Reebok, Shogun, British Eagle, Saracen etc.
Create and Unipack aren't doing anything new or shocking by producing cheap singlespeed/fixed gear bikes, they are catering to a market. As far as the made in India thing goes, i used to own a Royal Enfield motorbike that was made in india.
I wanted a classic bike but couldn't afford a new triumph and couldn't be bothered looking for a decent 2nd hand bsa etc so i bought a new indian enfield.
It was pretty unreliable, the brakes were shit, the lights were dim, castings broke real easy etc. I probably spend a couple grand fixing things and keeping it going. Could have bought a triumph or something for what i spent i reckon.
Was it the end of the world? No. It was a cheap bike. I had a laugh with it, i got pissed off with it. I rode it for a while and sold it on and now own a higher quality bike.Deal with it.

i was kinda half assed lurking.
hang on ill have a read -

both sides have valid points (yes i have no balls)
i bought one, due to lack of research and the fact that i cannot be without bike (before i joined this forum) and yes ive spent a fair bit maintaining/upgrading it, but i do not regret the purchase.
its served me well, and considering all the hype about how shit they are mines stood up pretty well... ish.
but i could have bought something alot worse for the money i payed.
but yeah. a totally middle of the fench review by crumb!
thank you good night, much love -

Deal with it.
OR just buy a bike that actually works and doesn't fall apart/damage the rider. Your arguments boggle the mind my friend.
Create made the bikes because they saw a niche in the market, in the past couple of years bikes have become cooler and riding a fixed gear is now considered to be a fashion icon. So what did Create do? built some shitty OK looking bikes for cheap and sold them for a lot, they aren't suppose work for a long time, just to look good. If someone wants to ride a fixed gear because they're just trying out new things a create isn't for them, but if they want one as a fashion accessory then go for it. What the people on the forum are saying is that the bikes are shite and shouldn't be ridden if your serious about cycling.
Deal with it.

This is good advice, the type of comment someone looking at these bikes should read.

BTW you must understand that nothing on this forum is serious - but taking the piss out of yourself and others is the highest form of humor most of us can aspire to

Of course not, but it sound dubious that it's made in India instead.

• #1241
why?

• #1242

Mechanical_vandal, I get your point, and if all they were doing was producing cheap bikes that would be fine. Yes, people would still take the piss, but there would be nothing wrong with getting one to start with.
The problem is that, based on people's experiences here, they are downright dangerous. We have regularly heard stories of mechanical issues, such as chains snapping, which if they happened at the wrong time could seriously injure or kill someone. Yes that can happen to any bike, but it seems to happen a lot more with these bikes.

Why? People said the same thing when the Japanese started importing cheap motorbikes into Europe in the 1970s but as the bikes improved in quality more and more people bought them and the British motorcycle industry was all but destroyed due to its complacency.
I've got direct experience of working with people from India and, like all people new to a particular area of industry, they took some time to get up to speed but the quality of the work they produce now is as good, if not better, than their UK counterparts.
So please, let's not make sweeping generalisations about the quality of something based solely on it's country of origin.

Nothing in the world is perfect
Grin and bear it silently or yell into my ear
Complaints, it's my department
Complaints, it's my department
Everything you wear's too tight and clashes with the candlelight
Just give it back, no questions askedNothing in the world is perfect
Grin and bear it silently or yell into my ear
Complaints, stereophonic
Complaints, it's ironic
How they chatter, how they bore us like some avant- gardish chours
Just give it back, no questions askedI'll dive off the mezzanine if one more points at crooked seams
A sign of shoddy workmanship, of Asiatic hands that slipped
Just give it back, no questions askedNothing in the world is perfect
Grin and bear it silently or yell into my ear
Complaints, there's to many hours
Complaints, the bosses cower
Two weeks free from all complaining, it was due to our complaining
Take her to Spain, hear her complainNow she says she is expecting
That's my fault for not protecting
Her from all the risks of passion
She's complining, she's old-fashioned
Just give it back, no questions askedComplaints, it's my department

I had one and it was pretty crap but it did work ok. I was very glad to get rid of it but if you are living in ignorance they arent too bad. Frame is well solid but weighs a ton!
Crank set is really awful, but i replaced it quite quickly with a mountain bike crankset. My my my it weighed a ton in the end...
yeah, my unipack weighs a ton...reminds me of...

I'm out of touch here I know, but when did "made in Taiwan" become an indicator of quality?

a while ago;I'm not very knowledgeable but I believe some of the highest regarded cycle frame and component mongers get the stuff manufactured in Taiwan, even if they still make flagship models in house. In defence of Ed ,I'm guessing he means that the high quality Indian bicycle manufacturing industry is not yet aparent in western world
No really, they're shit. I've owned one and am not a hipster. Have you owned one?
