For Sale: Ron Kitching Vitus 971

  • Ron Kitching Vitus 971 frame and forks for sale.

    Seattube: 61cm C-T, 60cm C-C
    Toptube: 57cm C-C
120mm rear spacing with horizontal dropouts.

Frame is in overall good condition, no dents, no dings, just with some surface rust on the stays and on the forks (Majority of which shown in pics), would clean up easily with very little effort. Bought it a while back, bit too big for me, was covered in vasoline when I bought it to stop it rusting (I didnt do it though.. was a pain getting home with the super slippy gunk everywhere) Gave it a light clean and it has sat in my room now for quite a while. It's just getting in the way at the minute.

It has a really odd paintjob and the paint looks like gunmetally grey colour on the top, seat, and downtube. The lugs are really cool, and painted cream. The forks and stays are painted duck eggy blue. The decals are for the most part, in ver good condition.

Vitus 971 were steel, double butted frames, something similar to the likes of Reynolds 531. It isn't glued like the Duralinox 979 frames, which bypasses the whole mysterious headtube failure.

    Anyway, here's some pics.

Following MMcCarthy's advise decided to advertise this for sale here aswell, as could turn out to be a lovely single speed or fixed gear bike.

It's located in Belfast, Ireland, but will post. Will be a bit extra to post, but I'll pick up a free box in Halfrauds and whatever it costs me to post (parcel force or send it now) will be all you pay.
If you want to ask anything, my number's 07857388264. Or ask mccarthy :P

  • Quite the bargain, kit-ching!

  • Un dib.
    With apologies.

  • No probs dude, still up for sale if *m.f doesnt want it.

  • 971 is i believe lighter than 531 d/b and Ron Kitching was the K in MKM frames...bet you *all *feel better for knowing that....or perhaps not!

  • Honestly didnt know about the MKM frames, that's pretty awesome.

Still up for grabs, havent had any word back from *m.f

  • Going on Fleabay tonight if I don't hear back from *m.f or unless anyone else wants it.

  • would love it but really can't afford it.
My first good bike was a Ron Kitching (my dad worked for them and I used to hang out in their workshop after school)
The framebuilders (MKM) were in another building 50 yards down the road.

  • That's really cool, where abouts were they made? Trying to soak in as much info as I can to give to the buyer when they eventually buy it :P

  • I'm not sure about the Vitus frames, but the MKM workshop (where they certainly built 531) was on Skipton Rd in Harrogate.
Ron Kit's workshop was just up the road. In the 70's his shop was on Commercial St. and then moved to a warehouse in Hookstone Park (also Harrogate)

  • An MKM was my first 'proper' frame in 531 D/B...bought it from Condor when they were at 90 Grays Inn Road....so not the present shop or the shop on the otherside of the road but the shop before that....cost £90 including a Campag record headset.

  • Awesome, thanks for the info guys. Putting it up on ebay now, will link it after.

  • yeah sorry Piro, got myself confused there. good luck.

  • No probs *m.f, frame now on ebay.
