Pleasant route from London to the New Forest?

Just wanted to say thank you for your New Forest route - I finally did it at the weekend*.

• Except that due to some last minute bike maintenance issues (due to having left my touring bike in pieces over the winter and only starting to re-assemble it at 10 the night before) I had to abandon my 6am start and instead caught a train to Godalming around about 11 and did it from there instead.
  And I also deviated a bit from the route around Winchester and did about 10 rather grim miles on dual carriageways, only some of it in the right direction.
  And then I had to turn off to my destination South through the New Forest not long after that.
  But... that aside, I stuck to your route for a good 50 miles or so and it was lovely, so thank you again.
