  • the 'thing' about the search for quality means that as you get better, ie closer to the pinnacle...ie Quality...you have the things that look like quality, however due to the manufacturing process being obsessed with how they 'look' and not how they 'perform'....things go wrong...most 'things' are built with regard to a progression of things that went before them...ie...they are 'pointy' due to aero properties/to add strength when extruded....they have a large flange hub to cut down on spoke length...they have flat spokes because someone at DT has spent AGES trying them out so that when you by a spoke it has been made with the huge amount of knowledge and skill that 30-40-50 years building spokes has got you...

The problem arises, when a company decides to copy the most popular brand, and make a 'generic' wheel that looks like the original however has none of the 'hidden' strengths of the other wheel...just the looks.
what you get with these wheels is something that has been built to look like quality, at all expense of quality, ie...so every expense has been spared to give you a wheel that looks good based on the other wheel being good...but due to it having no testing, it will have had the casting and or extrusions...done 'on the cheap'...ie for ease of build...at an expense of cost...certain 'parts' (ie the extrusions and castings) of the wheel, were made so they were easy to make ...rather than made to perform to any degree...

    totally different ethos of production...

ending in two totally different things that look the same...

one being a track wheel...made to the highest spec it can to save weight, transfer power, and asthetically please the purchaser...

the other being a 'wheel'...made to the cheapest possible spec, which adds weight, will fail upon the application of power, which cannot fill any of the criteria that the original was built for...other than they look the same..

Wasps and hover flys....to totally different things...look similar.
