I have some lovely friends in Exeter you can probably stay with Mark, I'll ask them... although for a good nights sleep I'd book early at one of the many B&Bs or Hotels,

Check out my friend's vegan cafe on the Cathedral green for brekkie, it's called The Plant... they'll sort you out with awesome coffee too: linky (walk towards the grass and turn right), 5 mins from the bike shed.
The YHA in Exeter is meant to be good, but not as nice/comfy as the Globe. You could stay with some friends if you like, but it'd be a roll mat on floor job..?
