Got this bike a couple of month ago with another bike as a possible project for my girlfriend as I couldn't decide what bike to do up.
I ended up doing the Raleigh for my girlfriend (gonna post some pics soon) and just cleaned this up and replaced a few bits.

    I'm looking for about £140
In Hornsey but can take it to Camden

    Specs n stuff
Barry Hoban branded bike, from what I can find there's not many bikes under his name especially mixte frames.
Made by Coventry Eagle sometime in the 1970's I think.

27" Wheels steel (rear wheel needs to be trued a bit )
    6 speed Huret derailer
    Greased wheels and derailleur
    New Charge seat
    New Tyres
    New brake cables

    Sugino cranks and chain ring
    Maillard Hubs
    SR Stem
    Dia comp center pull brakes

  • hi!

i'm really interested in this bike, it's lovely! i'm 5,8", do you think this would fit me ok? also, will it be able to have a rack attatched to the back?

    thanks,

    laura

  • if laura dibs, 2nd dibs for my gf...

  • Whats up with the chainline? Is it meant to be like that, even in the highest gear?

  • oh yeah, and er 'dibs'.

It does look pretty crossed up. I guess its the same as most derailleur gear systems, just because you've got n cogs doesn't mean you get to use them all.

  • Hi Sorry didn't see these posts thought this got lost in all the other threads.
I still have it but it is listed somewhere else but um no bids ah hem.. I can still cancel it if anyone is really interested, welcome to have a look over the weekend just pm me .

Hi Laura, yep it should be fine for you, the top tube is 55 cm my GF is about 5'8" and it's ok for her. It did have a rack on it but it was so rusty and thin I took it off.

Yeah the chain is on the first gear so that's why it's at that angle but it rides fine.
I did try a singles speed freewheel on there but the chain line was so bad I decided to put gears back on.
You would need to put a track hub/wheel on the back for it to work well.
Geared wheels are built at a slight offset to allow for the cogs etc.

  • it's a bargain

  • excellent! I've PM'd you.
