"......... This is lets not forget a film where an 11 year old girl says the word CUNT........"
Before you critique it go watch it and I challenge you not to smile.
Fact.
dont really understand your rationale with that comment^^ in "This is England" and other really good kick-ass films, swearing is rife, but it is in context of the whole film, if she says cunt, so what?
I like comics and the hero genre so probably will see it but not rushing to pay dollar to sit with the popcorn eaters.
Wrote about Serious man few pages ago, D.V.D. is great, with bonus 'Yiddish for Goys' explaining lots of the language, and other geek features.
Weve a digital copy of 'White Ribbon' this week. looking forward to that.

Reference to KICK-ASS:
judging by the poster, that looks like it will be popular amongst the school-age audience, not sure what the film will be like... ( other than guessing absolute wank).....
Genius......or......desperately out of touch? Hmmmmmm.

If not being a fan of kick ass means one is out of touch, so be it

December for Tron 3D I believe. Micmacs is marvellous.
agreed^ wonder-ful, whenever I ride back from film watching with the feeling all prosaic details of life that you see are all actually brand new, then its been a good watch. Micmacs just did it again.

Definately no genius, especially as film is the most accessible culture we have, just like films that have something about them.

Anyone seen grand prix the 1966 version. Great movie, more in the sense that it had the real 1966 grand prix drivers.

Cemetary Junction - Merchant/Gervais effort. Bit gentle, there were some good lines dotted about here and there, and as ever, Julia Davis was criminally funny (and totally under used), but it was very much like ITV doing Shane Meadows - everything tied up very nicely at the end.
It also had that ludicrous thing that British films do with the 60's and 70's (see also The Boat that Rocked - well, don't watch it, just trust me when I say it's a version of the 60's so far removed from reality it may as well have been an Austin Powers movie) - Reading Town, a dull as dishwater place in 1973, yet towards the end of the film, the characters end up in a club on a Friday night, in Reading, a club replete with a full 10 piece funk band, including a 'three hot black chicks with afro' vocal section - cue some overly dressed up extras pulling off step perfect Northern Soul style back drops, spins and scissor kicks! Ridiculous....
Felicity Jones is (dare I say?) fucking amazing looking. If there was a 'British Actress looking like a British Actress' award, she would win hands down!

The Ghost, Polanski's new film, is well worth a viewing.

I must say, i quite enjoyed it, there may be some bias there as Felicity Jones is beautiful!
I went to see it on a whim, although i am a fan of Gervais/Merchant. Some good comedy, and generally quite a good story with some choice cuts from Gervais's small part.
I have to say, i do agree about the club scene which ever so slightly lowered my rating of the film. But overall a good watch, i would recommend it.
In other news i went to see a film called Shelter this week, much to my disapproval (Last week was our choice i.e Cemetery Junction this week was the choice of the female specie)
Turns out i was right, it was awful, so awful!
Just do yourself a favour and do not go and see this film, it is an awful cliche of a horror movie, with a token awful soundtrack to boot.I'm just glad it was Orange wednesday, therefore i didn't pay full price to see this.

Derek Jarman was, by all accounts, a cunt.
There's a clue there I think.

Jubilee is a great movie... Haven't watched in over 20 years but fucking loved it the last time i watched it... Complete arty bollocks of course...

Yeh, I love those really great films that are so great you can go twenty years without watching them again.
-
• #748
Jarman's movies weren't meant to be watched again.

Not sure this was meant to have ever been watched
just dragged on and was terribly acted
it had the thespian skills of the a-team crossed with rentaghost
and then no plot but lots of heavy handed satire
I agree, the plot wasn't particularly clever but it handled the topic well and made for an entertaining watch which was a little thought provoking. A well rounded film which is worth a watch don't think it deserved best film though.
