Well, all that shit could happen in Hackney as well.
Since I live in SE15 I feel much safer than when I lived in E8 or E5.
Way less dodgy stuff encountered down here so far. That said, I did spot some kids sitting on some wall in the dark below a tree one day just of Clifton Way.
One of them was stepping into the light and going like "oi, mate, have a look at this!" while I could see the others jumping off the wall but staying in the dark behind. Needless to say I didn't stop. Pretty sure they would jump me.Also, if I recall correctly there were a couple of attempted muggings on the Cycle Route towards Bermondsey that crosses OKR and then goes through the small streets behind the Tesco.
Can't find a link to that though. -

For sure^ I feel a lot safer down SE than in E2 norf ways!
I guess what i was saying doesn't really apply specifically to Peckham.
Just when i'm in dodgy areas... i try to watch and not get to arsy with the wrong kind of folk ;)And yeah, that back route round tesco.... i had some 12yr olds give me some gyp the other day...They sooo should have been in bed! it was way past 9pm!!

Hmm, those kids tried in again tonight!! this time with a bit more determination......
For some bizarre reason, i decided to speed up and head straight for the main guy who'd stepped out into the road to get me!!???
It worked! seemed to freak'em out a little, I got a confused look from them and they backed off back to the curb!...Watch that back route folks......;-)

I think I'll leave that in my bag next time;
They're always coward, they're trying to be tough in order to scare the victim (which usually work) and thus have the confident to attack without worried, but they're a complete coward once the victim retort with the fire of hell up his backside.

I ride through Peckham to and from work every day and I've thought about commenting before on here about how much it feels like riding around in Mad Max! Laws don't apply there and cars, buses and people just do whatever they want. Sign me up for an unofficial SE Justice League!

All sounds a bit like a lynchin' party in here.
If you feel intimidated by someone the best thing to do is often to suddenly aim your bike at them with a wild and mad cackle. Gibbering helps too, and affecting a nervous twitch.

Ahh the East Dulwich forum. Home of racist bigotry and snobbishness on the internet. Some of the comments on there really take your breath away.

Just what bits of Peckham are you riding through? Not any that I recognise. Like I said before, I've lived and worked in Peckham, Walworth, Camberwell area for many years now- and I teach in a school on a tower block estate in North Peckham. Of course there are areas where I wouldn't hang around on my own after midnight, it's the inner city after all, and of course there are scallys around who swagger about and act tough. And like any other inner city area there are bad things that happen. But I just don't recognise the clockwork orange type scenario you describe-. Believe me, there are plenty of great people, and good things going on in the area. And I'm not naive- I've worked as a detached youth worker on one of the toughest council estates in London in the past so I have no illusions about what some nasty individuals are capable of. But I'd still rather live in South East London than Hampstead. You get a better class of people here.

hahahaha so true. I have recently been following the squatters thread. Some people on there really need to take a step back.

I love the 'Noisy birds' thread (not a thread by pistanator[he lives elsewhere])
and the 'has anyone lost a bird' thread as well. -

'1cm piece of volcanic pumice found in the garden!' is also a riveting read....

also EDForumengers talking about those 'privileged children'
I go through Peckham every day too.
I have to remind myself that if a driver endangers my life whilst i pass though.....
keep my mouth shut!!
Saying that, i forgot the other day..... fortunately a guy on a large motorbike came to my rescue claiming he was PoPo!! worked a treat and shut the guy right up!
As i make my way I thank him, and then tells me he's not actually PoPo ;)
