  • oh and they're being used on the shorter bollards (remember the David Cameron bike theft?) - so at least people who would use those things now have a safer option!

Lots will appearing in Camden and some are coming in K&C :)

  • on a tangent, has anyone noticed stands being removed and not replaced outside the blue fin building on southwark street? i hope this isnt a trend as parking seems to be getting scarcer as the weather gets (mildly) better

and personally i like these hoops, easier to secure front and back. nice.

  • Thanks Alien for forwarding the thread to me, good to see you at the Crit Mass ride on Friday.
Thanks for the comments so far (Hi Oliver hows things at LCC?)

The product you have all been discussing is the original Cyclehoop for signposts - they are cast in solid steel 40mm dia thick on the arms so no need to worry about them being cut. We use shear nuts and they are a bastard to remove - trust me i've had to do this a few times for the councils.

Most of the hoops are black - they are in around 25 councils across, primarily in London. I'd love to get more colours but most councils have their street furniture colour and heritage concerns. However black is quite smart looking and subtle. We are installing 200 across Camden over the next month.

One locking tip : you can use a standard D-lock (not mini D) to lock through your rear wheel / frame through the MIDDLE section of the cyclehoop - this method of locking is most secure for using single lock. It is not possible for the bike to rotate or fall over.

The latest Cyclehoop design we launched in Camden is the lamp column version, you can see photos here: http://www.cyclehoop.com/news-press/

You can now use a mini d-lock to secure your bike to a lamp column - check out Chris Delias orange bike ;) Let me know what you guys think of the design, all comments welcome. If anyone wants more info drop me an email through the website www.cyclehoop.com

    Tony

  • Looks like a good idea. This picture also seems to suggest that there also good for just leaning your bike on, without a lock.

  • Hi Tony, good to see you on here!

  • To follow on this topic of conversation, is there any kind of street furniture you don't consider safe to lock a bike to, i.e.

    • Signpost - sign can be removed and bike lifted over top?
    • Street railings - can be cut through?
  • secure bicycle parking

    yup...

  • They look like a bus steering wheel. Just sayin.
