I'm surprised the antipodean contigent haven't posted this already, but World Champion Cadel Evans has just won the Fleché Wallone. He timed his attack to perfection and stormed past Contador in the final 100 metres to win. A great win.

Good stuff - anything that keeps that fucking annoying pistol in its holster is a great win.

yeah he rode well today, let everyone else work themselves out and timed his attack beautifully, Contador was too eager, though i thought Shleck would win from that small breakaway at the end

I've never really been a fan of Cadel for some reason. It therefore took me a bit by surprise when I virtually burst a blood vessel shouting at the telly willing him to get past Contador this afternoon.
Always good to see the rainbow jersey win a quality race and always good to see Contador get smacked down.

Nice work Cadel. That was an odd win. Bloody cameras showing some bloke in the crowd and then focus on the finish line and Cadel just pops around Conti. Nasty crash on that bend with 40-60k to go.

That was a horror crash eh? But well done Cadel. Bertie looked proper fucked didn't he. HA! Poor work Mr Director. Missing the final move on the race.. Fail..

Yup...what happened to the fabled Cuntador spring? I am going to be forced to stop mocking cadel at somepoint, that was a really gutsy ride. Could he do the lbl double on sunday? I wouldn't bet against him to place...

Yes.....Well done Mr Evans..........

Bert was in a world of pain I don't think I've seen him grimacing the way he was before. Maybe his "preparations" are not quite complete.
And Pooley/Cooke 1/2 in the ladies version too
Brad's looking skeletal.. and is he sitting down??

The Huy makes me sick just thinking about trying to "race" up it..

That's awesome thanks, downloaded the 1 gig 2010 La Fleche Wallone from there in under an hour.

Here you can see some of the move, although not all of it:

Just about the lamest victory 'celebration' from Cadel ever. He'll get a pasting for that in the press again. How can you not be absolutely exultant after climbing such an easy little hill? :)

I heard the commentator say Contador about 1000x and no mention of Evans except for something about world champ I guess. Fucking pistolero lover.

It was a bloody farce wasn't it? A veritable doper's paradise.

You do have to give the underdogs a chance.

You lot don't believe in the right to rehabilitation/reform, do you. I'm glad you're not involved in the criminal justice system.
-
• #649
Personally I think that some acknowledgement of the crime committed and a display of contrition is part of the rehabilitation process. Have any of those racing in Trentino who've been caught done that? Ricco maybe, although he thinks it's a game, and maybe Basso, although he still claims he was planning to dope. The rest have made no attempt to acknowledge their guilt and so the omerta continues.

I think that the omertà's being whittled away by the influence of mass media. Displays of contrition can get a bit embarrassing. Sorry's fine, but not a protracted bout of self-deprecating/woe-is-me bleating. I'd rather a workmanlike return to clean racing. Actions speak louder than words, and similar clichés.
Regardless of all that, it was an amazingly close finish for a stage race. Quite exciting.
did you see that a Chinese rider finished 6th in one of the stages of tour of turkey. Can't think of a Chinese rider placing that high before.
