  • here's me tutoring the young apprentice (my god son) in the way of the jamerson last weekend. actually i think he was less interested in my astounding technique than the tickly feeling of the strings on his head but still...

ha. that's quite a confession. although i'm ashamed to say i have been known to knock out a knoffler impression occasionally. the singer in my old band used to occasionally sneak out the in-betweeny toned opening guitar line in rehearsals and he would invariably be pelted with rubbish and abuse whenever he did. likewise whenever a rehearsal studio had a jazz chorus he (without fail) would plug in, turn the chorus up full and play the opening chords of purple rain. similar reactions from the rest of us. the annoying cock.

can't think of anything i'm battling with at the moment. my nemesis is mr sandman by chet atkins. been struggling with it for years. so far i've got the intro and the verse as fars as "mister sandman, bring me a dream, bumbumbum, make him...." then i get all tied up.

been learning lots of covers recently as i did another one of those rock and roll gigs in april and have bene doing a few with my other band too. nothing particularly tricky though. lots of scotty moore early elvis stuff, some james burton bits from ricky nelson tunes, and in my folky band some nick drake, love, sparklehorse, big star and loudon wainwright (on the banjo!). fun stuff.

    you mean jackson browne ?

  • i imagine he means the nico version.

i imagine you know that anyway.

you win a pedant point though!

  • Pedants come hither.

Just got back form having this done. Sounds incredible, it's totally unobtrusive and now i can play my cherished acoustic with the band without a clunky clangy soundhole pickup.

And they did a quick set-up, fresh strings, fret polish and oiled the fingerboard for freebies while I waited.

    Win.

  • i have some more bits for sale. i hate to do this but i really need dosh atm...

-cornell romany plus. mint condition. (new one with A,B,C and D output stages)- 1k new, £700 ono.

  • Wheeeeee! Guitar thread!

I play very badly but I love it. I also make guitars that aren't as nice as jammy's (I think I recognise that fanned-fret acoustic from over on Project Guitar, no?)

Current project: 5-string banjo with a rim from an old tom-tom.
