I had a pair of these on a lovely old Claude Butler, but I never knew what they were. They're wonderful things, and I've been looking for another pair for yonks. Sorry to have missed these, but at least I know what they are now!
Cheers! :-) -

I might decide to sell the ones from the Claud. The bike is for sale, so i'll try to sell it minus the Salmons to give you chaps another bite.

Nice, let me know..

Yes, please. Been after a set for a few years now...

Where can you get these new?

Ahh.. I wonder if these are the same guards I got with the Ribble?
People have commented on them being somewhat tricky to find. I thought the guy might have made them himself but they look like these. He's added a blue reflective strip along the top though so I never saw the Salmon name. I hate mudguards but I do rate these.

You can't! Sogreni do something similar, but about 60 quid I think.

I'm sure I've seen something similar in condor...

You can't!
No need for that.

Good research Sammy. They look quite nice.

Was in condor a couple of days ago saw those in black. Modern take, very nice. But I need the originals!
Wish I never sold that bike! -
• #17
Nope the ones I have a far nicer than those cheap-looking wide Condor ones.

But Hippy, you hate mudguards! Pass em on, man. Pass em on.

I know, I do, but it's good bunch etiquette to use them during winter/wet days. That's the only reason I kept them.

Just saw this thread (looking around for tips on fitting VO fenders).
New silver Salmons, or ones with various coloured reflective strips, can be bought still, from Francis Thurmer at www.cyclesplus.co.uk.
His website has no mention of them but I know he sells them. You have to telephone him, send him a cheque and all that 20th century stuff, there's no email or web ordering, kids.
He goes to jumbles quite a lot with a big van and has lots of racks selling all sorts of gizmos, but doesn't bring these along unless you ask him to beforehand.
They're great, but I've been told they can crack. I've had no bother with the ones I had on my Path bike (which I had painted with the frame to good effect) or my mercian faudax.
These guards are simply a 20mm wide ally strip with milled edges and stainless steel stays, and are a perfect addition to a classic lightweight bike.
Their advantages are lack of rattling, the ability to act as a gentle support for saddlebags, and that they don't compromise tyre clearance like modern guards, particularly in the chainstay area. They are very light, too, and look gorgeous, espeaially polished.
They are embossed with the Salmon logo, and are in very good condition indeed. You can fit wither to dropout bosses, or via p-clips.
£20, about half the new price, when you last could get them.
Photos are of an identical pair on my Calud Butler / Duomatic scorcher. The items for sale are in better condition and are clean!
