• What's the situation with trains? There's a limit on the total amount of bikes on the Eurostar, right? I'm guessing the Paris-Berlin leg of the journey would be OK... Was talking to horatio last night and I think he's convinced me that getting the train over would be best...

You can put bikes on the Eurostar, but it costs £20 (I think), but many TGV (french hi-speed trains) have no provision for bikes.

The easiest way is to bag the bike. The legal max size for luggage on TGV/Eurostar is 120 X 90 X 20; Carradice make a bike bag in these dimensions.

I haven't had a really good look at the schedules, but the suggested connection from London to Berlin involves two changes:

one at Bruxelles-Midi and another at Koln. Bruxelles is a piece of piss, and I haven't done a transfer in Koln but it shouldn't be too much bother.

I am pretty sure that there is an overnight from Paris - Berlin, but I doubt it's worth looking at, unless you can get a really good deal on a couchette, especially as the transfer from Paris Nord to Paris Est is such a pain in the arse.
