Hey, I got some magnetic ball bearings and put em in my 5mm bolts.
Now I can't get em out, so I bought a very strong magnet - 16kg pull, and they still won't fucking budge. Only been in a few days and haven't gotten wet, sprayed with WD40, made no difference.
Any ideas?
I was thinking that the BBs would magnetize the bolts, making a magnet on the end of it useless :/

Oh dear, oh dear.
Maybe a pair of needle nosed pliers?

sounds promising though, as long as you find a way to get these out, then they are the solution to stolen saddles.

Lever them out with something small. Try a sewing needle or a pair of tweezers from a penknife.

if a 16kg pull magnet isn't enough i doubt a sewing needle will do.

^this is why i suggested glueing in normal ballbearings.
the metal bolt is magnetized by the small bearing, and the magnet will just pull against the larger item. ie: the bolt -

Leverage not magnetism, it's a completely different principle of physics as the ball bearing will not be loosing contact with the nut and therefore you are not required to break the magnetic bond until it is out of the hole.
Give me a place to stand and I can move the Earth - Archimedes
You'll note he said this about levers, he never attributed the same claim to a big ass magnet.

any luck yet?

If they are really stuck get a centre punch / hammer and give them a wack. This will shatter the magnet and you can get the bits out with a sharpened spoke.

Just seen this...
Dear oh dear.
So, alloy bolt heads with magnetic BBs would work, if you greased them in. Magnet to remove.
Or use glue on normal ones...
What I want to know is, how does Murts change a tyre?

In hindsight I think this was a stupid idea, espically when you get torx fittings in a massive range of sizes. Theives generally don't have a full set of these, hell even I've just got the odd one or 2. Also why do you need to put bearings in your cranks? Surely theives don't have crank pullers?

A bike I bought from the forum (here) had one of these little buggers in the saddle clamp bolt. I got it out one time with a knife and an extra pair of hands after I bought a new Brooks (yeh good idea, Sam). Anyway last night my saddle was stolen from outside the pub I work at. Checked the CCTV and it took these two guys 6 minutes taking it in turns to get the saddle off. Now I don't think many other methods could withstand the same treatment - let alone 6 minutes worth - so I'm going to try and get hold of some more of them for my new Brooks (yeh another good idea, Sam).
Just so you know.

Didn't actually stop your saddle getting nicked though did it?
