New BlackBerry + Bored at work = The inevitable

Spotted - MF bombing down Richmond Hill

• We saw some fools on a fixed in the square today ... I shouted "do a skid" and they gave me funny looks.

• Ha! Sorry for the funny look! I could have sworn I heard "do a skid" and I obviously did!

• pretty lame though to just scamper by....
we had a blistering ride back btw Mark, riding with 16 year old internationals keeps ya on ya toes ;-)

Shame the Metro don't have a clue though...

• Just to inform my fellow Bomo-ers - I've completed my first singlespeed project bike, so if you spot a haggered, red, 1983 Raleigh Ace with a scared-looking bloke on it, that'll be me! Took her out for the first time today and had my first experience of throwing a chain, heading down towards the Fiveways pub in Charminster! Lost one of my nine lives, a few inches of rubber off my shoes, and a clean pair of pants, but at least I'm in one piece.

Knew this shit weould come up without me mentioning it

a few facts,
the mediation of this nationally has come about through the local Echo writing an exeptionnally bad piece (even for them) all press are looking to have a bash at councils and cycling unless they are exceptional.

scheme is a crawler lane, on a very steep hill, designed to allow cyclist overtaking within width, and at the same time make drivers aware of cyclists and give them room on ascent.

it is as wide as the road allows, which changes along its course,it is an advisory, hatched line as per guidance by Cycling England,it is on a secondary road, with few buses.

So far there have been 5 complaints o the cycling officer who works within the same office I am based in.

On the opposite way down the hill I take delight in setting off the 30 flasher every time I leave my house.

@plinth check above links if you want to meet tricksters, otherwise keep practising and will meet you soon enough.

• You might want to look at why the chain came off. Chain too slack to begin with, incorrect chainline, etc? Also, stick a brake on, you don't have to use it but it'll save lucas shouting at you when he spots you fixieskidding around town! It'll also help in situations like this.

• how do you know hes brakless? could just be a rookie?

I think it's the chain tension. I got it as tight as I could with socket wrench - any tips?

To be fair it is brakeless actually - today was the test ride to see how brave/supid I am and I think a front brake (dia comp goldfinger anyone?) would be a welcome addition.

At the bottom bracket, hold onto the frame and wheel and push the wheel back as hard as you can. Push the wheel so that it touches the drive-side chainstay.

Tighten the drive side wheel nut moderately, so that the wheel won't slide in that dropout.

Now push the wheel back towards the non-drive side, so that it's aligned correctly, tighten the non-drive side nut. As you tighten this one, it will also pull the wheel back towards the non-drive side. Now tighten them both equally, really tightly.

• Fair point, assuming brakeless because they had to stop with their feet.

• sounds like stupidity ^ if you cant resistance pedal properly dont ride brakless,
even better learn roadcraft before even going near one of these new fangles fixie bikes

• right beach time, rubbing it right in yeah......laters

• Isn't Luton pretty much in London?

the collapse of the south east into London has continued apace last few years, and calling places like Luton airport, 40 miles away from London, London Luton hasnt helped,
its still a toilet, and I know, I worked there from 2007- 2009

"Safety experts have raised fears that such confusing markings could force drivers to veer on to the wrong side of the road."

That'll be a first. Chances are they'll ignore it like THEY DO THE REST OF THE TIME :D
