The cheap Shimano one does the job rather well for that, I'm thinking of putting a dynamo hubs on the beater with a chrome headlight, something that won't get me caught out in the evening.

Precisely my reasoning. Can't forget it as it's permanently attached and therefore (relatively) un-nickable and the batteries won't die when you're half way home.

Will have to look into the Shimano hubs. Cheers.

Can't find any LED dynamo lights that would look decent on a bike kitted out with 1940s style parts though. Might have to be a DIY hack job.
