  • Use one of these things:

    http://www.threedoubleyou.com/convertpower.htm

You might not need one though, most stuff comes with transformers built into the mains lead (that big black box), and they accept 240 or 110 V.

  • This charger
    and
    These batteries

are most recommended by the singletrack light nerds.

The mte p7 takes 1 battery at a time and the charge lasts for about an hour or so on full beam - longer flashing or on the lower (still pretty bright) settings.
I just use a travel adaptor plug - no transformer needed. This one is $2 also from dealextreme.

  • I would recommend the P7 5 mode memory. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16092

and batteries and charger as above with Villa, the plug is similar to the ones you stick in the back of portable radios, so I just rammed one in the there. House hasn't set on fire yet! Charge it at work instead just in case.

  • What's the memory bit on that one mattster? I've got the http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12060 which looks the same otherwise (though a bit cheaper).

  • Dancing-James

Do Rapha make hi-vis nodder clothing?

  • What is this bike radar?

Do I need lights if i use it?

    Thats great!

  • I think it just means if you have it on flash, when you turn it off, and turn it back on again it will still be on the flash setting rather than clicking through High-Mid-Low-SOS-Flash. I think on the other non memory you have to keep clicking to get to your desired setting as it resets everytime. Only useful on the 5 mode version.

  • You can get a bit of randomness in orders from dealextreme. They either ship the wrong 'moded' version, or the model has been updated without any notification.

I just got a Romisen RC-3N, which I'd assumed would be single mode, but it turns it it's got 3 (low, high, strobe). It only cycles through the modes if you switch it on/off quickly, but if you leave it off for 30sec, it always reverts to high. Still practical for me, as I'm using it as a high-mode-only helmet light, but the other modes are a bonus for stuff in the home where a low mode's useful.

  • Cliveo

I pride myself on keeping a low profile, being meek, shy and retiring.

Though I am a complete nodder.

Rapha do a hi vis waterproof jacket or marquee for men of your girth, it comes with an army of midgets to aid with erection. Hippy who was last seen wearing Rapha on Saturday may have to buy more of this stuff though am not sure how many dwarves come with the 3 man tent version.

  • With my new light flashing it almost gives you an epileptic fit (though on the plus side you can also dance like a robot).

The beam looks like this , so I basically look like a motorbike. $38 from hong kong. Bargainalicious.

On the ride home from tweed with villa ru, I was convinced there was a silent car / motorbike following me for the first ten minutes, before realising it was this ^^ light.

  • Lupine Lighting Betty... Approx. $900

  • Hah, I just went and got my girlfriend a Knog Gekko to replace her rear Frog light the moment this topic was made, the front is just bright enough, the rear is not.

  • IMO the drivers you have to worry about pulling out of junctions aren't going to see/care if you have a light on the front or not.....

  • True dat

  • Anyone here every bought some of them cheap Hong Kong led lights from ebay? They are only £0.99 for two. I'm wondering about the quality.

    Poundshop or 99p shop

  • I got some of those 'Skully' dual flashing LED lights. Probably no good for a night commute on a busy road, but the business whilst there is still natural light about.

The brightness of them also suprises many people, even the prat with his overly-chunky MTB who smirked at them in the bike shop last week. Until I switched them on.

  • anyones used planet-x / on-ones skull led thingies? Don't like the skull itself, but are they bright enough?

    or perhaps these?

  • its kind of a no brainer isnt it?

you would think so. although the manager at an unnamed cycle shop in london has started an in-house competition with his staff to sell the most of a particularly groovy LED light. I have witnessed these lights being recommended and endorsed by various members of staff participating in the competition.......whilst they are strong, they are also tiny....and not sufficient for sole use as front and rear lights.

many customers have taken their advice. I have recommended strongly that they don't any time I've been present during this little game.

there are bike shop staff out there actually advising people that these lights are as good as a decent set, which they are not. so useful thread, I would say.

Let's take a wild guess shall we?

    Most very probably, Shite.

Bright lights make a huge difference at night, there's so many conflicting beams and reflections in town you need something powerful for drivers to see. You are wasting your money on weak ones.

Erm... they're not the skull ones are they?

The ones you attach to your valves? I bought some and was quite impressed given that they only cost £1.50 shipped from HK. They were pretty powerful and really lit my wheels up - excellent side-on visibility. Only trouble was A) the battery life was poor, and when one of them ran out I could'nt be arsed to find somewhere to buy replacements, and B) they don't stay attached very well, they rattle after a bit and eventually I got home one day with only one. Some locktite would sort this out, or just some gaffer tape in fact.

  • Poundshop or 99p shop

Great!! I'll go and check it out. I'll get back to you and let you know if their any good or whether I should flush them down the shitters....

  • Ffs it's your safety at stake

so we now need to watch the rider down threads incase these lights are shit?

And the Lfgss darwin award goes to ...

  • Exposure enduro max and joystick. One on flash one on main beam. Car drivers get well out of the way. Live outside of london so need proper lights down the country lanes. Bit pricey but worth it. Have led as backup but shit for seeing where I am going.
