  • Hello All,
Right, my first proper post, most of my others had been within the stolen bike thread :(

But as you may have already read http://www.lfgss.com/post1319164-3629.html , my Langster Monaco got lifted off an extremely high balcony the other week, and has just been replaced with the new Genesis Flyer, which i'm starting to like an awful lot! It's a bit heavier than my langster, the alloy fork over the carbon fork is probably the cause of that, I doubt the comedy bike horn my little brother bought me (so feel obliged to attach) doesn't help too much eather!

Swapped the horrible standard pedals for some MKS platforms like i used to have, and love, but havent got toe straps on them yet, will leave it a bit and see how it goes without for a week or to as its single speed, not fixed. Saddle's good but not great, but off the shelf saddles never are are they! and i'm a little bit peeved that the rear brake cable is attached using cheap black plasti-ties down the top tube, rather than the nice chrome ones pictured, but hey ho!

The new addition to the balcony is a mini faghetaboutit, and an extra chain! Theiving Scum!

The problem I face, bike easily visible from road / park / canary wharf!

  • I'd keep that indoors mate, what's stopping you?

  • 1+, just leave it inside the building.

  • I'd keep that indoors mate, what's stopping you?

    My Girlfriend!!

  • Oh bring it in regardless, she know your previous bike got stolen outside, reason with her again.

  • why would she say no if you already had a bike stolen from that very balcony?

I don't know how to say it nicely but she doesn't seem to have her priorities right if she doesn't allow a bike inside when you don't have any alternative safe space for it

  • If you have to leave it on the balcony - cover it up!!!

  • That will be gone in a couple of weeks, the thieves will be well happy seeing a new bike there.

  • Get a new girlfriend,

  • why would she say no if you already had a bike stolen from that very balcony?

precisely, if it were her bike, she'll says it be ok to leave it in the flat.

  • Just bring it in while your asleep or away from the flat.

About 35 squid and you've got yourself a workable solution, without having to move the bike inside and the girlfriend outside.

  • cover it with a tarp?

  • covering it isnt gonna make a difference,if they went to the trouble of stealing it last time, covering it wont disguise what it is.

  • helps stop it going rusty though.

  • I know where you live. Sleep well.

  • there are stylish ways to store bikes indoors.

  • Nice one, if you're a much of a ponce as I am you'd get down to Condor and chuck a fiver their way in exchange for a little baggy of chrome cable clips to replace the plastic tie-wraps you've got there.

  • The chrome one is lovely and it does go well with the frame.

  • They had an easy time of it though the other week, it wasn't locked (hadn't been locked for the previous year either!) i thought the height was enough deterrant, and for a year it was! Still dont know how they did it! but rather than an unchained bike on the balcony, there's now a faghetaboutit holding it to the top railing which is far too thick to get bolt cutters through, and cant slide left to right due to the balcony lugs, and the extra chain going through the railings and the wheels. I feel it's pretty secure now, and its obviously still insured! I like the tarp idea, or maybe some thick bamboo behind the railings to block off visibility?!

I kind of agree with the missus that a dirty, oily bike shouldn't be kept on our cream carpets though!

  • I wouldn't bank on it, I had my Genesis Flyer nicked from Limehouse last week. Its was locked up with a series 4 Kryptonite and a New York, the bolt cutters went clean through them!

  • The chrome clips are and should've been supplied with the bike, complete with clear sticky plastic to protect the paintwork underneath where they clamp onto the toptube. I'm guessing the mechanic who built it was in a bit of a hurry (or lazy) and opted for the quick and easy zip-tie method instead. Send me a pm with your address if you want the chrome clips and I'll stick a set in the post for you as we've got loads in the office.

    Change girlfriend and carpets.

  • Girlfriend locked to Balcony with Krypto, bike warm in bed with you, problem solved

  • it may be pretty secure, but once a theft went up and realise it's locked, they'll just try and get part off.

if I were you, get the alarmed lock and attached it to the chainring, any slight movement will alert you, and they're loud as fuck, or so I've been told.
