If it's cancelled, train to Harwich, ferry to Hook and a nice day's ride through the Flatlands to Amsterdam. That is a trip full of Win.
Absolutely, I did this on Easter weekend. Nicest cycling experience for ages.
Do it.

And if you are going to do it, the website you need is:
http://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/rail-and-sail/holland/
The dutch flyer ticket. However, this is the most annoying online booking process ever. Ring 'em up.

I went to Harwich once, totally grim but nice fish and chips.
Meanwhile, I wait for my call from Malaysia Airlines...

This. While the ferry isn't exactly a paragon of luxury, it's still nicer than an airport departure lounge. But then again, so's syphilis.
I love traveling by ferry, when my girlfriend and I drove to Scotland we went over the Woolwich Ferry, it made it seem like a proper adventure!

I am pretty sad though.

We go on the Woolwich ferry on The Football Stadium Ride, get on the list

Didn't Christiania get shut down? My sister was there when it got raided by riot police.
-
• #259
If the ferry is very full it is often worth paying a few quid to go into the club lounge.
-
• #260
Is that the trucker lounge? I assume it is all bears and reach arounds in there...

However, If I, like my colleagues parents, were stranded somewhere abroad like Turkey, I would relish the forthcoming adventure of getting home by some unknown means.
Mate of mine is a commentator for World rally. Stuck in Turkey. They organised a coach from Turkey, through Greece. Ferry from Greece to Ancona, Italy. Then the haul up and over to Paris to try and get Eurostar.. He's not relishing any of it..

Would be more of an adventure if they let one of the rally drivers have the wheel

I doubt I would choose the coach option, but then I'm unlikely to be travelling as part of a large group. If I were doing something like that, I wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to explore the local culture a little bit. They'll pass right through it non stop, which sounds shit. The problem is focussing too heavily on one destination instead of just trying to get a reasonable distance each day. We rush past life too fast these days.

I'm stuck here in the UK and this is how I'm getting home to Amsterdam.

It depends on how fast you need to get somewhere, doesnt it? what youv discribed is a road trip! nice, but some people really need to get home as fast as possible

Fuck me, you're not far off there.
I've booked a flight for Thursday evening and want to make sure I don't lose out on a ferry crossing, but that website is beyond a joke. -

Not really, they go through phases.
The police raid it every few months, all the dealers disappear, then a few hours later they are all back.
I've not been this year yet, but I've heard they are a little bit more subdued than last year. The last couple of times I was there there were at least 5 dealers sitting around surrounded by about 20 different types of weed and hash, without a care in the world.

If women = earthquakes
Then it follows men = volcanoesObvious when you think about it

They're just not praying hard enough for all us sinners.
And syphillis is easier to get in Harwich than an airport lounge making the journey so much more productive.
