  • i'm 5"5 with a 30/32 inside leg... and i was wondering if anyone could recommend a frame size? or even a particular frame? i've been told it may be hard to find.. i'm pretty new to this game. i am looking to build a bike myself.
    thanks!

  • I have the same size legs as you but am 5'8"

I can fit comfortably on a 57cm seatube with a decent amount of seatpost showing but when it comes to top tubes I would ideally need a 52cm.

The top tube thing will be even more exaggerated for you as you have a shorter upper body than me. So you would need a nutty bike, like 56st-49tt.

This is a vague approximation based on my own ideal proportions and trying to use a normal stem and drop handle bars. But indeed a frame like that would be nearly impossible to find.

If you do not mind things such as using big risers/town bike style handlebars or a short stem with rise, this will not really be as much of an issue.

But trying to get a traditional racing bike setup with deep drops or road bars with hoods would be a big challenge.

Perhaps longer arms and more flexibility might help fitting a wider range of frames too.

  • If you got a small sized otp track frame like this:

(which is a 49cm Bianchi pista)

and had really long seatpost and turned the stem upwards with all the spacers left in, it might work out ok, but it would not look as sexy as a traditional downard stem setup.

  • Cyborg, I urge everyone to get sized correctly, it saves alot of time and heartbreak in the future as you don't buy frames which are too big/small.
Not sure where your based but you can get sized by scherrit on here for about £70 I think he's out in west London.
Other than that if you search for sizing on here there's plenty of threads about the arcane art of figuring out the right size frame for you.
Also would be best for you to go to a couple of bike shops and try some different sized frames out.

    Hope this helps.

One more thing if you're in london on the 24th there's the revenge of the 50 fixed women ride so they'll be plenty of women on loads of different sized bikes which would be an ideal opportunity to chat with others in a similar position and also take a range of different bikes for a spin
have a chat with clefty as she's organising it.

1+ oldest and best advice out there.

  • If you're on the 50 fixed ride, talk to stifflink, she knows everything.

  • thread title lead me to believe some form of swap.......disappointed

  • Not a good swap.

You can own a fixed wheel bicycle but you never own a woman.

  • I'm pretty sure if she didn't specify she was a girl you lot would've just said UTFS
