  • Why do people continue to be so scared of wasps and hornets? Don't hit them or alarm them and you'll generally be fine. They're non-aggressive animals, especially hornets. Honeybees are more aggressive than either wasps or hornets.

    I once walked into a hornets' nest in the woods surrounding the lake. Scary experience. They are massive and they were dozens of them in my face.

    Wasps are nightmare if you're camping and leave food around. As kids we used to go sailing every summer and stay in tents. Because of our limited budgets it was all bread and jam. And cider. Sometimes I was stung every other day. My mate was taken to the hospital when he was stung inside his throat (jam sandwich which almost killed him).

    Raw onion on the sting is good if you can't find anything better.
