The hub is a Formula 120 mm, and the frame is an old Armstrong 531..
I thought of filing the axles, but it seemed to me more difficult to file both sides at the same area..
Probably I'll go with filing the frame and see how it goes... fingers crossed!Thank you guys!!
For fuck's sake
FILE THE AXLE, its a pile of piss.
you'd have to be inept to fuck it up. -

Ha - you've now got 3 choices. I went for filing the dropouts.
I like the look of the axles from track supermarket.
SoperRiva - am interested in why you are so insistent on filing the axles -is it just 'cos it's easier?
The OP seems to have a similar frame to the one I did - old 531 designed for Sturmey hub. Filing the dropouts was really easy & I'm pretty sure given the amount of metal there that I'm not in danger of anything snapping as I probably only shaved off about 1mm. It was just the very ends that needed filing & as I said it took about 20 mins - the majority of which was offering up the axle to the dropout to check how much I'd shaved off each time.
I just reckoned that if I did it that way once done I wouldn't have to think about it again if I wanted to swap the hubs/wheelset.
I'll let you know if it snaps & I lose my teeth.

pretty much.
its not like filing a frame is going to make it more fragile
BUT:
filing the axles- simple- 5 mins with a file maximum.
dropouts- if you get it slightly misaligned- and you will- you might get axle slippage when the nut bites incorrectly. then life is not so peachy.
but fuck it, don't save time, spend a while with your file and get to know the rear end of your bike.
This, and only this.
Do NOT file the frame you crazy kids.
