Even the peleton last year was averaging 15 mph or so.
Big LFGSS forum rides are more like 9 mph.:P
-
• #228
There wasn't a problem last year with open roads.
-
• #229
We set off after the roads started closing last year.
-
• #230
wouldnt traffic be avoiding the roads that are due to be closed anyway?
saying that, i would rather cycle on properly closed roads.
i think it would be nice for us all to stick together as well. -
• #232
I'm probably going to be going a lot faster than you plebs, so I'll set off at 8am. See you all at the end for a fry up though rite guize??
-
• #233
Are we dressing up?

Wow this ride is such a nice idea.
Dressing up? You mean marathon-fancy-dress or marathon-spandex (or both?!)?

i like the dressing up idea
madatory pirates/ninja suggestion -
• #236
True. Its an extra 30 people.
So is the plan to have a normal LGFSS forum ride pace?If so I think I may well start later, even if I am just on mi own, I liked the pace of last years fast group :)
EDIT: That sounds really really teenage and pathetic.** I must sound like a right twat**. What I mean is that last year what was nice, for me at least, was the rapid pace. It was unlike other forum rides, and I liked that. When I saw this thread I got all excited, and then when I saw that it might be a bit regular I got a bit disheartened. What I'm sort of wondering is if there is a group or some others that might share my enthusiasm for a faster pace, and then to see if we can work summit work, be it a different start time or a split group or whatever. I think it would be a shame to loose the uniqueness of this ride in order to reach a bigger audience, if you see what I mean.
So yeah, anyone thinking along similar line, or am I on mi own, again? :P
this is correct.
If you want to do a later starting, faster paced ride then organise it, create a new thread and notify people on this thread that such a thing exists. This ride is already organised and the people who have put their names down have done so because they want to go on this ride.
your constant debating insults the judgement of the OP and is quite frankly irritating and verging on boring.

Dude's lets stop the bickering.
Personally speaking, I don't think this ride will get close to a hundred people, forum rides generally have a lot of put name down, fail to appear bodkins. And as has been suggested before with the abnormally early start that will weed out the lightweights, and saturday night specials.
In terms of a faster paced ride, people can do what they like, personally one of the great things about the ride last year was the strength in numbers, and how apart from right down on pall mall, we were able to use the numbers to allow us to continue riding down the emptying streets, if its just a bootleg group of five or six, you may not get the same courtesy.
Anyway this is all rumour and supposition until the bodies pile up on blackheath bikes in tow at half six.
Henners and the chuit wonder, you have to be there to represent the original marathon crew, as I will unfortunately be unable to attend.
make it a good one.yo coppi hope the search for a breakfast place turns up good full english results...

indeed, i mean c'mon, it's a 6.30am start, this probably means getting up 5.30 and earlier for a lot of people, and a lot of people (me included) will probably just turn their alarm off and go back to sleep.

Fair enough.
I agree there is no point debating. So me and a few others who have expressed an interest in a faster pace will be meeting on black Heath at 7 to set off about 20 past. Anyone is welcome to join. We will be aiming for a 15-18mph average speed.
Coppi: what about the premisis on hackney rd? Is it a bit east?or the vauxhall cafe in pimlico?either way I'll have to skip breakfast to go to work. :(

If you leave later you're not officially part of this ride.
-
• #246
If you leave later then security may have cottoned on to it and stop you in your tracks.
Just turn up early, ride your bike, go as fast as the pace allows for keeping the group vaguely together.

You can take my name off the list then if you like.

Maybe. We'll find out soon enough. Its worth the risk though.

His goose is cooked.
Hey, closed roads(ish), sunny days, we'll most likely go a bit quicker. I'd almost like to do this at a fairly aggressive pace. However, that's not for all and half of the fun last year was streaming along with the mini peleton...I'd say a prompt 7am departure is about right to really catch the closed roads but happy to go with the flow!
