have you really come into the thread 80 odd in and wanting to change everything?
how about you have your fixie alleycat start at 7.15 and the original gentile ride around the course starting at 6.30 will go as originally planned.
^^ all due respect etc. etc.

.....urgh, yes.
I happened to ride it last year, have a hand in planning it, and have an opinion on how it went, and how it could be better. I'm just offering my two cents. Just 'cos I found this thread late doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to throw some ideas out there, or atleast so I thought.
I'm happy to go along with 6.30 as I seem to have way over stepped an invisible line I couldn't see.

EDIT: Oh, and, by the by, road closeurs start at 7 am, or 8 am over the river in le isle of dogs, according to the this:

are you leading this 'coppithat'?
or at least does someone know the route, because with this many people there could easily be a conflict of interest, with two people thinking different directions -
• #211
The route is on the link in my last post. Most of it is very easy as they have police waving you along.

True. Its an extra 30 people.
So is the plan to have a normal LGFSS forum ride pace?If so I think I may well start later, even if I am just on mi own, I liked the pace of last years fast group :)
EDIT: That sounds really really teenage and pathetic. I must sound like a right twat. What I mean is that last year what was nice, for me at least, was the rapid pace. It was unlike other forum rides, and I liked that. When I saw this thread I got all excited, and then when I saw that it might be a bit regular I got a bit disheartened. What I'm sort of wondering is if there is a group or some others that might share my enthusiasm for a faster pace, and then to see if we can work summit work, be it a different start time or a split group or whatever. I think it would be a shame to loose the uniqueness of this ride in order to reach a bigger audience, if you see what I mean.
So yeah, anyone thinking along similar line, or am I on mi own, again? :P
-
• #213
could there not be two groups
as there are alot of people
jsut see what happens, and then those whom are faster can go along at their speed -
• #214
sounds like this is going to be fucked up... LOLz
Sir Coppi vs Major Harry!!
Fight!
-
• #215
As one of the few select people who initiated this LFGSS tradition I think having this many people on this ride is stupid.
we DO need it to be early. thats half the fucking point- as it means people will lie in and not be bothered.
anyways.
I'm questioning whether I'm in or not- as 100 people is going to change the ride dynamic./my2pence.

exactly...
But in any case, I can't imagine even half the people on the list will actually turn up when their alarm goes off at 5am...

obviously the pack will split. I don't want to ride with 50 others, more like 5 or 6. Half won't get out of bed, perhaps I won't either.

Turn up early, ride at own pace, wherein lies the problem?
The problem lies in the timing.
If you set off before the roads start closing south side at a fast pace you will do half of the first 13 miles in roads that aren't closed and the most of the second 13 miles on unclosed roads as well.As I mentioned, last year we set off about 7.15 and still encountered roads that had yet to be closed north of the river.
So my point being if there is to be a fast group it needs to set off after 7, not before. There were about 40 that started the ride last year at the time and the numbers didn't cause a problem with popo. So yes I conceed 100 is alot more (assuming they all show), and at a slower pace it makes sense to start at 6.30. But it makes no sense to have a fast squad starting at that time.
Sorry if I missed something.

I'm probably in the same boat as most people on this list in the fact I may not be awake or in a suitable condition to do this ride. I've left my name off it for this very reason. However, if the planets align and by some miracle I'm awake, I will endeavor to be at the start. If not, then I wont have contributed to the worry that the group is too large based on the list here.
(it also gives me the opportunity to back out due to a few spots of rain/moderate winds without anyone knowing.)
ill probably say yes
