...an unsupported, unsanctioned, unmarshalled, six-rider team time trial meets alley-cat, meets ‘Cannonball Run’.
Interested?
It's the Rapha Gentlemans Time Trial, in which 10 teams are hand-selected (I've been offered one) and their handicap is calculated, the slowest start first, the faster start last, and all head from London to Brighton on June 13th with some teams taking things seriously, others getting drunk and causing mayhem and all arriving in Brighton after a good days ride. (late edit: I missed the fact that there's a return aspect to this).
I'm reminded of big daddy wayne's mantra: It's all about the ride. And I'm really excited by this one because it just sounds the right kind of ridiculous and non-serious (the reason I created this place).
It's not really a race as no-one really cares about the results, it's more about having fun. Think Cannonball Run and you'll know that winning isn't really the point.
I need 6 confirmed names and sub < 1,000 members are my short list.
I am very biased towards giving people with a userid < 1,000 a slot as this is an LFGSS team and I'd personally say that long-standing active users should be given the place over someone who registered very recently.
Of course I secretly would like to do well, but it's really about the fun... as in, what can we do to upset the nice status quo which I imagine will see the Rapha CC, London Dynamo and possibly Rollapaluza teams turning up in full lycra and being competitive. I figure there must be teams from press, sponsors, LCC and other groups too... we'd have some handicap (not being a CC) but won't be at the bottom of the heap.
What I need to put in our application:
1) A team name
2) Six names of riders plus email addresses
3) Team philosophy (reflects the name and the spirit of our ride)
4) "Our team should be included because..."
5) Our handicap ( "Slow but determined", "Steady as she goes", "Not to be underestimated", "Warp speed Mr Sulu")

Who's up for it? And what will be our style?
