Wheel building video tutorials by arup on YouTube

  • Hey all,

I've finally got round to recording a set of video tutorials for wheel building. I've had loads of enquiries about one-to-one lessons and tutorials. Many have found the existing tutorials on my site to useful but we have bigger bandwidth nowadays I thought it was about time I made some videos. So I'm starting a new thread just to promote it really.

They are a bit rough and ready and they follow by current method of building 3-cross wheels. This is essentially for newbies and those with very little experience as I cover a lot of background information too. Experienced wheel builders may find some points useful.

I've put them into playlists. There are 2 Parts - lacing and truing. They are on autoplay. Here is the first set.

    videos[/ame]

    And the second set

    videos[/ame]

Big up to forum member FridayMarch26th for adding the titles at the beginning and the end as well as adjusting the levels.

I hope this will be useful for those wanting to learn to build their own wheels.

  • nice, just what I need!

  • This is brilliant, now all I need is a sunny weekend and a few beers and I can have a crack a building a wheelset in the garden...

  • Good work!

  • Arup, I wish you still lived in Sydenham! A massive pothole has knocked the rear wheel you built me out of true........ But now maybe I can have a pop and truing it myself.

  • I found you're site really useful building my first wheel, this is going to make things even easier. Brilliant.

I'm actually moving back to Sydenham in July, so all you Westies have a couple of months to get your orders in. Sorry hear about the pothole incident. Same happened to me a month or so ago. My front rim got a big dent and needed to be replaced. Good excuse for a new spoke pattern.

  • The above embedded videos don't take you straight onto the playlists so here is a link to the actual playlists. I've numbered each one in case you lose your place but the easiest way to watch them all in sequence are the two playlists.

Excellent news, especially as I'll have some wheels to be built around then. :-)

  • @ Timmy2wheels
If you can't wait for Arup to move back (say if the truing thing becomes urgent) there's a good wheelbuilder just up in SE1 on this here forum who I'm sure would help, if you pass by that way. Of course, without wishing to upset Arup ... PM me for contact.

Well done Arup for sharing your knowledge, 'respect' due.

  • Arup, these are solid gold - thanks man.

if you wanna borrow a tripod for next time hit me up ;)

  • Brilliant - thanks Arup.

(And thanks too for the wheels you built for me a little while back - I've been using them over the last couple of weeks and they're great.)

  • Thanks 1000 Arup.... Cheers

  • Brilliant, sticky?

  • if anyone wants wheels building, I will do a pair for £15.

I've built about 12 wheels, want more practice. I have lots of truing experience from polo.

I have truing stand etc. I live in N16. PM if interested.
