  • If you're pressed for cash, wait for it to snow again and go to Tufnell Park

    YouTube- Snowboarding Tufnell Park

  • I'm going skiing for the first time tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

  • why were you skiing the green line for the duration of your stay?

Not sure what the green line is to be fair. The Austrians don't seem to have the same obsession of sending their kids out to ski in large packs and there's no school gate at the queues for the lifts. Then again, there were no button runs in the Gastein valley, just those godawful T-bar draf lifts.

  • What were the prices like? I'm really struggling to find a good deal this season. Tempted to head back to Espace Killy same as last.

Booked about six weeks ahead and paid £1500 for two half-board in a hotel (not a chalet) with very good food. Lifts included and hire for my ski's and poles as well as carriage for my gf's kit. The hotel had a spa with pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna all comp'd. The room had a mountain view. We were cautious to avoid half-terms in UK, France and holidays in Germany or Austria. The resorts are quite spread out and it can take a bit of time to get to the lifts in the morning unless you want to pay a premuim to stay close. The premium isn't worth it of you can cope with reading a bus timetable. All buses comp'd in with the lift passes.

Bit out of my budget that one. In the end i went for Avoriaz and Morzine with direct ski, not done it before but i have it on goo authority that its a great area for both skiers and boarders. It almost didn't happen mind, a mate got pussy whipped at the last minute, what kind of a girlfriend stops there bloke going on a skiing holiday ? she ended up costing us an extra £65 per person :O

I would be hesitant at judging the details of someone's relationship but pushing a last minute bail out is a bit crap. I'd have held him to his portion of the costs.

  • +1 to that. Skiing holidays are expensive enough as it is.

  • Did anyone watch inside sport last night, Michael Johnson doing a part on downhill skiing.
    Not available on iplayer yet.

  • Nah missed it, anygood?

  • Yeah, was worth watching it, some good interviews with current and former champions.

  • Just heard CR Johnson died, one of the true inovators that pushed freeskiing to what it is today, and a pretty incredible guy who had already come back from near paralysis once.

    RIP

  • I've just had 2 days of face shots in St. Anton.
    Today was bluebird.
    Fuck me I'm in heaven.

  • Umm, the porn thread is <----- that way.

Only joking, I'm in Chamonix right now, no actual powder but lots of fun in the sun.

  • I just got back.
I'm a bit miffed by the lack of mountains.
I also have concluded that I'm allergic to not being in mountains as my first reaction on arriving home was vomiting.
I also tried ski-biking- which was like a crazy crossbreed of two things I like a lot. and I liked it alot.

I think when I graduate I will move to the mountains.

Not seen those before but they look/sound pretty nice. Skiied the Salomon Lords last year for a few weeks and they were great off but pretty sketchy on the scratch. The Dynastars solved that problem. Considering getting some next season.

  • I like the ARV because it is in essence a off piste, and you can trick about on them but they ar soft enough to be responsive on the piste, this also means if you bring your feet right in close together can can rocket through the moguls on them (well as much as is humanly possible on a long fat of piste ski), but compared to others just a really great all rounder, also budget wise good value for money, all though as Armada become more of a hispter brand they are also getting more expensive :( but still best skies in my opinion if you are off piste as much as possible, and want a al rounder the rest of the time.

Down side is because they are quite a specialised ski I think near impossible to rent/test.

  • p.s. If you get a good price on the Dynastars they are ace, but see if you cant wangle a little discount.

  • I skied a pair of ZAGs in Val a couple of years ago - simply stunning skis. Took a while to gee used to the spring of the wood cores on piste, but in the soft they were amazing. Nippy through moguls and all.

Last week I was given a pair of Bandit SC86s - which were OK, but I was looking at people's dynastars with envy.

  • All my french friends in the Pyrenee's swear by ZAG, fast responsive and fat enough to ride threw deep pow pow and spring slushy crud.
They are a bit springy for my liking but thats just pure personal preference.

  • glacier skiing- hell to the mother fucking yeah:
    YouTube- OUSSC SUMMER TRIP FEEDER-TASTER

us being idiots on subsidised holidays...
    yay!
sadly my 360 to double eject back injury was not filmed...sigh.
    and yes, i have raced.

also i will have a set of line blends (169) up for sale soon. the top sheet is a bit battered but they are in decent nick.
comes with a free second set of skis (longer)....
I just changed my skis, and now want some tourers for some long trips i've planned in 2011....

I have some Zags - Stephane Radiguet, who owns Zag, was and still is head of Board Design at Nidecker, and one of the most respected board designers out there. I have a custom snowboard he made too, amazing ride

  • So summer skiing on glacier any one??
