• DTspokes calculator gives me headache, as I don't have all the measurements to hand.

  • Perhaps I'm going to answer this question, dear east end images:

    http://www.campagnolo.com/repository/documenti/en/spares98-B.pdf

    Rear wheel 16H - 8x 280mm + 8x 275mm

  • I have pair of 700c mavic open sport rims that I want to build up. The front hub is a generic on one large flange track hub. Standard lacing 3 across 36h.

Rear hub is a coaster 36h the ones sold on the web cheaply.
Any idea on spoke length for these??

  • thanks very much

i am coming up with a number of 289.8
where is the best place online to purchase spokes?

  • I'm not usually a UTFS person but it appears you have put no effort into this at all.

  • searching now..

  • Could anyone tell me the spoke length for 36h deep v's with on-one large flange hubs please?

  • what lacing pattern?

go on the sapim website, their spoke calc is awsome and well simple!

  • 36 roughly take off 2mm from 32 length as above. so 280mm

  • does anyone know where the measurements of the spoke are taken
i have broken a spoke and need to replace
should i measure end of thread or end of spoke
and where at the hub end of the spoke where should i take a measurement ?

  • Measure from the 'elbow' to the end of the thread.

  • Harry it's gonna be 3x but cheers Dale you've saved me a job

  • which end ehren ? far end or near end ?

  • Spoke length is measured from the inside of the elbow to the very end of the threads, most usually in millimeters.

    Ask Sheldon ;)

  • had a look but he has only a couple of entries under spokes and nothing showiung the measurements / dimensions ?

doesn't really give me what i wanted nor the DT Swiss site ??

  • from the inside of the elbow to the very end of the spoke. This corresponds roughly to the outside edge of the hub drilling to the rim bed (assuming external nipples).

  • thanks sir

  • the spoke calc is saying i need 297.1 but the shop only has either 296 or 298. which one would be the better to go with?
    cheers

  • I would go for the 296 especially if it's a 3-cross. Even with radial you'll be fine. Going longer you can risk reaching the end of the thread before you've reached the required tension.

  • I would go for 298. In my experience the chance of reaching the end of the thread on a spoke if the measurement is 0.9mm out is very low. The wheel will be slightly easier to build, and if 296 turns out to be a bit short tensioning a wheel fully and having a bit of thread showing is a royal pain in the arse.

They'll both probably be fine though.

  • Hi, I am calculating 293 mm spoke length for building a wheelset with Zenith hubs and Mavic Open Sport rims. I can buy either 292 or 294 mm spokes.
Should I go for 1 mm shorter or 1 mm longer spokes?
    Anyone built the same wheels?

  • stefano - are you dave the roofers mate?

I round down peronally. Either works though.

  • Hi, finally went for 292 mm spokes. I am ordering the front hub (formula) for outspoken cycles (rest parts from another supplier which did not have the front hub) and they mention PCD: 58 and flange distance: 29 which does not make sense? Shouldn’t it be PCD: 62 and flange distance: 34? Is it another version?
