  • £35 for some unusable forks... bargain.

  • ooh here we go. how do know they are unusable?? have you used them before??

  • they look to be pointed backwards, but my guess its the picture not the forks.

  • I'm more after some old tubs...

  • ooh here we go. how do know they are unusable?? have you used them before??

Thanks for the pointless PM costa, lets keep it on your thread if you want to disagree though.

I don't need to use them to tell you they are unusable... and in fairness they are not unusable in much the same way as a car with no steering wheel or maybe some shit-soiled calvins are not totally unusable. However your forks have seen enough stress to take them past their yield strength and on their first step towards failure. They are noticably deformed just below the crown where the fork leg would not normally be raked in manufacture and trying to bend them back from that will make them even more liable to failure. I'm not saying they will definitely break but they are a big step closer to breaking than they were before.
Also, forks that are that tweaked will make the handling on almost anything go to shit. By all means sell them but seriously, £35? for forks that are only good for... well I'm not sure why anyone would want bent forks but I'm sure there'd be some use for them...

    Good luck with the sale.

  • Velonoir, you are right it can be dangerous in case there's another crash which can be more than drastic if the fork's crown snaps.

But... There are people who restore bikes as a hobby and keep them in the shed, so fork like this one could be a temporary solution until they find more suitable panto'ed one.
And there are some, who like to walk their bikes down the road and don't really ride them much.

C_C described it as it is, so it's sold as seen - as long as the buyer take the precautions and knows the risk of using it.

  • Both are valid points.

I hate that you are both right.

Where's the pure, unadulterated rightness that we love so much?! Damn you all!!!

  • Krylions for me please.

As for the forks, I wouldn't have thought they're likely to fail dramatically, though that's never to be ruled out: I rode for ages on a pair that were bent worse than that, and suspect that if you've got a frame where they don't give massive overlap or fuck the handling, you'd be fine. Big if, and so it's up to the buyer to be sure they're happy with condition and price.

  • Conti's please... PM'ed

  • Cheers for slagging my items off in public Velonoir. If I felt they were perfectly useless and a serious danger to members of the forum I simply wouldn't list them. I feel that I have described these forks fairly and if they don't sell no problem. They are collectable to someone who has a passion for italian frames. If you have anything else to add Mr Know-it-all - Velonoir please go ahead...

  • Costa-I know that it is annoying to have a sales thread shat on so understand why you're pissed, but I think *Velonoir *was just trying to look out for people that might not realise the risks with using bent/straightened gear. When I read the post at first I was a bit puzzled as it did sound like you were selling unusable forks for purely aesthetic purposes, the idea of which I suppose is a bit annoying to some people too, but now everything's clarified with subsequent posts and all good-definitely no misunderstandings now!

So, good luck with the sale!

Remarkably enough the internet allows people you don't know to provide opinions and comments you don't like. If you didn't see this coming more the fool you. Deal with it.

As I said good luck with the sale.

  • very patronising of you... Trying to make me out as some conman who doesn't describe his items properly?? Of course, velonoir knows best.

  • Not at all, I've no doubt you are a great guy and that you do not intend to scam anyone. I have not suggested you were, my initial post was in reference to the price you were asking for a set of forks which by sensible definition are unusable - as in for their intended purpose. In fairness you have edited the post to make more of a point about purchasers thinking about the bend now anyway so presumably recognised it could have been clearer. I don't quite understand why you are on a tirade about me "knowing best". I haven't said anything untrue, maybe you would feel more comfortable on a forum where noone knows anything.
Anyway, the tyres both look like a good deal so, and I mean this in the most genuine and unpatronising way possible, good luck with the sale.

  • Thanks for the genuine kind words. I am honest and polite with everyone on this forum as I feel that's the best way, and with reference to the forks as useless I don't share your opinion. I am no frame builder or super expert on Italian racing steel frames. As for making things clearer regarding the forks, I had originally mentioned the slight bend, which would have been dishonest and deceitful and you would have been correct to have a pop at me. Lastly, I thank you again for your comments, but personally think that you should keep your opinions to yourself. With reference to being on another forum where no one knows anything is a bit strong and uncalled for.

Thanks again for the good wishes and all the best.
