I ride with a front brake and Power Grips for foot retention, I'd seriously suggest you use both!
I find I am not using the front brake at all (a total of 1 yesterday when some div stipped out right in front of me). Just get used to the fixed aspect, if you're constantly swapping it's not giong to help your muscle memory etc...
