Come on, I personally think that some people in this thread are over reacting. Kasper is actually a very good mechanic, as previously mentioned the british standard has a range n not a set specific number! Additionally, Chamberlain Cycles is a competitor of Evans so dont you think they say anything to slag them off and convince you to stay with them????
Come on, I've shopped at Chamberlain myself and I much prefer ANY Evans Cycles any day. P.S. Sorry to hear bout your frame dude. =(

^^ on that note, try not to deal with "engineer kaspar" .
kasper has helped me out many times and is a rather good mechanic!! maybe he was just having an off day or some shit!

But carbon? wtf? IMNHO Evans are asking to be sued giving out crap advice like that.

But no one on this forum apart from Ufrasia knows exactly what was said to him. They may have said to him that it is not advisable, however, he can still ride the frame. Who on this earth will want to spend some much money just because of event which weren't even their fault. you?
All im saying is that no here fully understands the complexity of analysing a frame and im sure if they were presented with the same task they will probably make mistakes! like any human being. And remember his second reference was coming from Chamberlain Cycles who find it hard to wipe there own @$$es lol.
But surely, no offence Ufrasia, everyone knows as soon as you crash a full carbon bicycle you just strip it for you components because there are too many risks with ride; well dependant on the force expressed onto the bicycle. In other words was an accurate account giving to Evans about what happened?

I don't know if anyone can help, but I just went to the toilet and couldn't wipe my own arse, shit everywhere!

Try Evans.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the "wipe your arse" scene, can someone advise me on what bog roll to get? I've also seen that you can buy wet wipes, worth the extra bucks? Finally, any tips on the right technique to use?
-
• #459
@putyouonda
Evans did not say I shouldn't ride the frame. Nothing of the sort at all - which is why I was not happy with the service.
Do you seriously think I forgot to explain to Evans what happened? Pre-empting that with 'no offence Ufrasia' doesn't help. How patronising. And, yes, I am aware that carbon doesn't bend. Thanks for the tip though. slaps headOh, and I'm a girl.
Not a guy.
Maybe I lost my pretty head and forgot to tell them about the big bad motorcar?? ;o) -

Evans in Glasgow is usually great for advice and service, though I did spot an ex- Halfords employee at the weekend which worried me after the fun I had through cycle 2 work with them!

But no one on this forum apart from Ufrasia knows exactly what was said to him. (But I'm going to makes some massive assumptions in Evans' favour anyway)
All im saying is that no here fully understands the complexity of analysing a frame and im sure if they were presented with the same task they will probably make mistakes! like any human being. ( Paid pro's too? That's reassuring. Or a cop-out)
... Chamberlain Cycles who find it hard to wipe there own @$$es lol. (Yet they give better advice than Evans?!)
But surely, no offence Ufrasia, everyone apart from Evans knows as soon as you crash a full carbon bicycle you just strip it for you components because there are too many risks with ride; well dependant on the force expressed onto the bicycle. In other words, after being run over by a car did you forget to tell Evans this thus making it impossible for them to recognise the frame was fucked? ***i.e I work for Evans and no, it couldn't possibly be their fault, even though i've just said that EVERYONE knows if a carbon bike is crashed it is for the bin
Fixed
if you read the title of the first post IT WAS FOR AN INSURANCE QUOTE, so if you're going to be massively condescending, at least try to pay attention to the topic in question.
Yes, most people aren't professional frame 'analysts' (?) thats why the insurance company asks you to get a quote from a fucking pro-i.e someone that works in a shop like Evans fixing bikes for a living- so they should be the ones saying to the insurance company ''everyone knows if a car drives over a spangly fucking carbon frame it is fucking fucked, you fuck'' as opposed to saying to punter 'nah, its fine-go and plant your face into some concrete'.
So, what you write supports the fact that not only did she get bad service from Evans but potentially dangerous advice too that ignores even common knowledge. I got a steel frame fixed by a guy at my local and even though he could fixed it he still stressed that it was at my own risk and that he wouldn't recommend doing any hard racing on it.
yet another knowledge fail from somewhere that makes a massive profit flogging expensive cycling gear...

wrong. my easton ec90's bent. the left dropout is 2/3mm further infront on the right. they're cracked too mind you.
-
• #464
Carbon needs to be xrayed or something to check for cracks, right? Did they put the "no it's perfectly safe" statement in writing? maybe a complaint to their head office might actually stop this happening again
Oh, and I'm a girl.
Not a guy.
Maybe I lost my pretty head and forgot to tell them about the big bad motorcar?? ;o)it's more likely that whilst you were trying to explain you got distracted by a thought about new shoes.

I went to go and pick up my new bike from Evans on Saturday. I got them to put my new cog and pedals on but ended up having to leave it at the til. Gutted.
You used to be able to pay for it and get a refund when your Ride2Work voucher arrives.
Apparently their new stock system doesn't allow it so I'll be waiting a month :-(

Hi, not recommending Evans however just letting people know they have a sale on at the moment:
http://www.evanscycles.com/pages/the-times-promotion
30% off certain bikes which is significant, including the Rocky Mountain Boroughs single speed - anyone have knowledge of that?
also Monday think they are doing 25% off locks which is good (but think you will need a voucher or code from the paper)
Cheers, Jon

My brake cable snapped on the way in to work this morning, strange because it's only 4 or so months old, I rarely use the brake and it was on a bike I haven't ridden much in that time... Anyway, I pop into Evans in Canary Wharf to buy a replacement, the guy nips into the back to get one and hands it over with a 'No charge, mate... Have a good one."
Nice... I approve... -
• #468
They did that with a stack bolt at London Bridge the other week. Screwed it in as well.
They can be very helpful. -
• #469
Shame they're shit in Birmingham.
-
• #470
Ok, where's the Evans is shit thread?
Went in with mate to get her OTP 'fixe' . Reduced from £500 to £400, they wheel the bike out and say, sorry this doesn't come with pedals, you'll have to buy some.
This ain't no road bike I explain, this should come with pedals, so they chuck some £5 ones in which promptly had bits falling off on the way home.
Anyhoo, had a proper look at it at home and the crown race isn't in properly, it makes a hideous grinding noise and is way too tight. You'd surely check the steering before sending the bike out the workshop wouldn't you? -

Went into evans in spitalfields last night, on my way in there's a girl right outside trying to fix a puncture. An employee of Evans tried to help, + points for that.
I come back up from the basement 10 mins later at least, the girl is still trying to fix the puncture, now without help. I give her a hand, and the same evans employee that tried to help her earlier comes up and asks if we can get it working? "Can you get the tube in? Must be something weird with the wheel, the tubes are the right size, don't know why it doesn't fit"
I had it all done in less then 2 mins, (great flexy tyres, dead easy to get on so it looked like I was well skilled).
Being an evans employee without knowing how to fix a puncture... - points for that.

They were pretty good to me last night, came in as my back wheel was out of true. They took it straight away and sorted it quite quick. Bonus that they finally had the the part i ordered two weeks ago.

In my experience of three or four of their London stores, I've found in general that the shop floor (retail) staff know jack shit about anything bike-related, and it surprises me not one bit that one of them proved incapable of changing a tube.
However, I have nothing but praise for the mechanic (Stewart) in their Chalk Farm store. I stopped in their on my way to work with my freshly built up road bike and he sorted the headset (needed an extra spacer), torqued up my BB, did a quick check & tune of the gears, and gave me a handful of free cable ends. Charge: £0.00 (and that's not the first time he's done sterling work for free - beers on their way to him soon). An all round punk-rock dude.

Anyone work at Evans or works within the industry know?
I'm on a Cycle to Work Scheme at work, but all the 2010 bikes i'm interested have all sold out. Has there been a shortage of bikes this year? -
• #475
The Cycle Show is in October, probably before that?
I want my green pony back! It's either 'Bike and Run' or Evans'. Balls to that....
Or a nice fat cheque and loads of tube rides with ass in my face every morning. :o(
