Riccò splits with girlfriend Rossi over CERA positive

Italian says he will only return to Vania Rossi if she is cleared of doping allegations
Riccardo Riccò is reported to have split from his domestic partner and Italian cyclo-cross rider Vania Rossi in the wake of her positive test result for EPO-CERA at the Italian cyclo-cross Championships.
The Italian Olympic authority (CONI) announced on January 29 that Rossi had tested positive for the substance in a sample taken at the Italian cyclo-cross championships on January 10. Rossi was handed an immediate preliminary suspension and is currently awaiting the results of B-sample tests.
Riccò, who has a baby son with Rossi, indicated that the length of the couple's separation will hinge on the outcome of disciplinary action against Rossi.
"I am disappointed with my girlfriend and there can be no reconciliation until Vania is shown to be innocent of the allegations that were raised," said Riccò, according to Italian website Tuttobiciweb.com.
Rossi has continued to maintain her innocence since the announcement of the original result.
Riccò is currently serving his own suspension for the use of CERA at the 2008 Tour de France. He will be free to return to competition next month with Italian squad Ceramica Flaminia when his ban ends on March 18.
Last month, he had denied any involvement in Rossi's positive test.

Probably scared of any potential backlash against him through association. It certianly doesn't look good on him if she is found to have been doping after he did.

Ricco is one of the vilest people ever to ride as a pro; even before he tested positive, even if he had been riding clean, he was an arrogant, spoiled, egotistical waste of space. It's hard not to think he might just be doing his girlfriend a favour by leaving her. The child, sadly, would seem to be stuck with two very unimpressive parents.

"potential backlash".. He's basically been crucified on every cycling forum since this news came out. Deservedly so.

The team that signed him was not invited to any of the Italian races in March run by the Giro organisers, so he might be completely fucked even on his own turf.

His suspension ends day before Milan San Remo but he won't be riding.....

it's a probably a bluff he was likely to be complicit in her doping.
people do some strange things when caught or accused (remember the greek runners at the olympics)
deny everything, deflect the accusations and hope it goes away.

Or poison their wife. Or dope her when she doesn't pay attention.
